90 4Runner sunroof problem

Hey guys, I have a 1990 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with a sunroof. Never had any issues with it until last week I went to close it, and it didn't seal on the drivers side. The sun roof motor is a little sluggish in the home stretch (last 200mm of travel.) As it raises up into position the left side seals, but the right side doesn't. Toyota wasn't much help at all, and told me it would cost $700 to get the motor and rails, and $200 for cables. Has anyone else had this problem before? I'm new to the forum, but haven't found anything all that similar to my issue. I know you can manually close the roof with a flat head, but it doesn't want to budge at all when I try. I'm selling the car at the end of March and atleast need to get it to close 100%, and then I'm happy to pull the relay on it and render it useless and sell as is.

Odds are it's come off the tracks. That might be because the guides are broken, but it's hard to say without putting eyeballs on it.

I've never messed with a Toyota sunroof, but I've played this game on other trucks. If the goal is just to make it seal, you should be able to remove the glass and position the stubborn carriage forward or backward on the track until its in the right position (might need a little help from a hammer and drift, be as gentle as you can), then put the glass back and bob's your uncle. If you want to dig a little deeper, take the glass out and then drop the sunroof assembly and inspect the tracks and carriages. If nothing is broken, a good cleaning and some fresh lube will bring it back to life. If a carriage or cable is broken, you'll need to replace it. Junkyard is your friend here, because the factory wants way too much for that stuff. I've done business with www.sunroofdoctor.com twice, but I don't see 1990 4Runner on his list of cars and I don't know if he'll ship to Aus? Maybe you can find a similar outfit on your side of the ocean.

I know your pain. My sunroof has never worked and will slide open on its own while I drive. Its always a bad day when I forget to check it before a storm...
