91 clutch pedal stays down.

The clutch pedal in my 91 has started staying down when I press it sometimes. I have to manually lift it up and press it again to shift into 1st and 2nd. Seems to function better in the high gears. Twice yesterday at idle I had the clutch pressed and the shifter in first and it actually started trying to creep forward with the pedal pushed in. Any ideas?

Check around your clutch master cylinder and reservoir. It sounds like you may have a leak. Try to bleed your lines, with your fuild topped off a leak should be more noticeable.

I agree with SV. Check the line for leaks, or your MC might be on the way out.

Another strong possibility is you have some crud in the fluid--not fluid leaking out, but the hole getting plugged. I've been dealing with the same thing, and after cleaning out the reservoir and changing fluid, it went away. It only takes a tiny particle to clog it, and your pedal goes to the floor and stays, leaving the clutch nearly engaged all the time. Mine did recur after a time, so I'm changing out the master cylinder this time for safe keeping (it has over 220k on it).

Yep, either master cylinder or leaky clutch line. My 1991 Honda Accord did that, I drove it for a while like that, then eventually it stopped working altogether. I had to shift without using the clutch until I got home. Just needed a new clutch line.
