91 V6 Crankshaft Pulley Key (you know where I'm going w/this)

Before my question, lemme quickly preach to all you guys (as others have) that when you put your crankshaft pulley back on - make 100% sure it's torqued properly or a little bit of laziness will cause you many headaches like I now have.

The crankshaft pulley bolt on my 91 V6 came out which loosened things enough for the pulley to chew up the key on the end of the crankshaft. It is totally smooth now with no signs of there ever being a key.

Was this key part of the crankshaft or was/is it removable (and replaceable) like other crankshaft keys? Things are so ground down now that I can't tell.

That's a pretty common thing to have happen believe it or not...

I don't thinkit's part of the crank per se, but I think it is pressed into it and not really replaceable.

I would suggest going to a forum like yotatech or pirate 4x4 and looking around/ asking there. They're a little more advanced in these older engines from what I've seen in those forums.

Good luck with it... I'd say new crank which basically means rebuild.

The key slides into a slot in the crankshaft. If the key is gone (or partially), remove it. If the edges are sharp on the crank, and a new key can go in, then get a new key, and probably a new pulley and you will be OK. If there is play in the slot of the crankshaft, I'll tell you where to go get a rebuilt engine.

Always torque things.. Twice if need be.
