That's good progress!

If you do the IFS eliminator, plan on frenching your shackle hangers and maybe even pulling a leaf from the spring pack. That kit sits high. Any thought for a link suspension up front to go with your linked rear?

Yeah I would rather have sky's kit, but trail gear is decent enough. I would love to link the front but that would cost some serious $$$$$$ (...unless there is a way that's not expensive that I do not know about):twitch:

Dumb question, but what is frenching a shackle?

Normally your shackle hanger extends below the frame, like this:

A frenched hanger puts the shackle pivot up inside the frame, like this:

It knocks an inch or so off your ride height but lets you keep the benefit of the longer shackle. If you decide to french your front hangers though, consider cutting and turning the knuckles on the axle to keep your pinion angle in good shape.

Ok gotcha! I never knew the term for that. I guess you learn something new everyday.
I'll have to talk to my buddy who is going to be doing all my welding and see what we can do.

Well I have this set of wheels I have had laying around that figured I would bring back to life. They are steel cragers (15"x10"), plenty wide for large tires. They had some surface rust as you can see from the first picture. I took some sand paper and the rust came right off. Then I went to home depot to buy some plasti-dip. I think it turned out pretty well. Next step is to do some weld on bead locks. I just can't decide which design I want to go with.

Well I got my ifs eliminator a couple days ago. The UPS guy was pissed at how heavy it is. :becky:. I tore apart my axle all yesterday and rebuilt the knuckles. The passenger side inner axle seal leaked oil everywhere. Tomorrow I start cutting the suspension out! Pics to come! :hungry:

Well I yanked the IFS out today. Hoping my buddy will come over tomorrow to cut the rest out and start to get hangers welded up.

....And the grinding begins.
BTW if anybody is interested, I am selling my BJ spacers/diff drop. PM me if you want them.

Anybody know what to do with the vacuum lines that went to the ADD system?
I probably should plug them but what have you SAS guys done?

They come off a vacuum switch, right? Trace them back to the switch, yank it, sell it to some poor sap with busted ADD, and then trace that line back to the manifold and cap it there.

Enjoy your new less-cluttered engine bay. :)

Alright so I got it back together today. Holy Sh!t this thing sits high. I'm going to probably have to convert the rear to leafs now. Only thing that sucks is that I have to wait 3 days to drive it, otherwise I have to pay the whole month for insurance while it was down. It will be worth the wait though. Now to get a driveline, new tires, and my 5.29s installed.

This is a 37" irok, looks like it would clear. Too bad they are on jeep 5 lug wheels

Looking AWESOME!

Please post a review of the 5.29s when you get them installed and tested out. I'd like to read a real-world review of those gears as I'm close to swapping out to that same ratio.

:ballchain:

well sweet baby Moses.... i guess thats what your doing with those other two wheels... lol i still want the two good ones though, i have a trailer they would go nice on and they match the wheels on my red 85 truck... so if you wanta part with them let me know.

i had no idea you wrecked it man WTF. i just remember you talking about doing an SAS but that was all you said... glad you are ok and nothing too serious happened. looks like its all working out for the best.

ps no more stealing my names lol

Which IFS Eliminator kit did you get? 3", 4" or 5"?

I got the 3" kit. I like to keep it as low as possible.

I kept it pretty quiet on FB to avoid drama. If you want the tires they are yours. They have good tread on them still, however, I do not have center caps if that matters.
....and it isn't stealing since I cited you in it

One I get this thing finished, it's going to browns camp!

I will let you know!

id love to go to browns...

maybe our rigs will be done around the same time i just had to drop a but load of $$$ to pay to have all my front end work done. i was supposed to have leave this weekend to be able to have time to do the work myself but just found out yesterday that i wasnt getting the time off, so i had to scramble last min to get the work done... so its going to the dealer that my father inlaw works at to get done by him at work -not to happy about it as its costing me probably $1000 in labor alone -cheaper than letting any other dealer do all the work at $2200+/- but still more than i want to pay for stuff i can do myself.

all the IFS and steering is basically getting replaced. the only think im not touching is the upper control arms and upper ball joints, cause im gonna be going to light racing arms in a couple months time oh well its pretty much all lasted a quarter million miles so i cant complain too much
