I bought a 93 4runner back in Novemember from my neighbor. I've known who's had it for the past two years or so, and I'm concerned about a few problems. It has an oil leak, but that should be rather simple to locate. More serious problems are listed below
1.) Brake fluid leak. After maybe a week of driving, the brake warning light comes on after accelerating from a stop, then roughly a day after that, stays on 24/7 until I add some more brake fluid. Is there a common location on this generation for the leak to occur? Due to the brutal Chicago winter, I haven't been able to really look for the leak. I have no idea whether it's at the caliper(s), or the cylinder.
2.) Rear window. The rear window will not go down. There is no current draw on the battery when trying to lower the window from the center console switch, however there is when I try to raise it. However, when turning the key in the rear gate, I can hear the motor trying to engage. Nothing turns or moves, and the window doesn't budge. Just the noise from the torque of the motor trying to rotate. I know the window is related to the wiper position. Wiper doesn't work, motor activates, but shaft doesn't move. I have removed the blade/arm. How is the proper wiper position detected? And is my rear window jammed shut? One more question, is it possible to get inside the rear gate at the window assembly with the gate closed?
3.) There is a wire dangling under the engine. It seems to connect to a connector on what I believe to be the front gearbox. It looks like it ripped off quite some time ago. Is this wire important? Four wheel drive does work.
4.) Power sunroof. The sunroof does not fully seal without manual assistance. The "manual operation" flat head screw does not rotate when the sunroof ceases to move any farther. I always thought power sunroofs were direct-drive units. The motor does seem to continue spinning even after the window has stopped, however that slotted shaft does not. What is slipping? And what are some proper maintenance steps to smoothen out the sunroof operation?
