93 4Runner Engine -- Newbie!

Hello folks!

I just bought a 93 T4R. It has a 3.0L V6 with a bad exhaust valve, so I am wondering if I should overhaul the engine or just invest in a different engine. The engine has 270k on it. From what I have read on other threads, people seem to recommend getting a larger 3.4L to better handle the weight of the vehicle.

If I do get a different engine, how do I go about getting the right one? Sellers online seem to have what I need but I don't know if buying one online is legit.

Thanks!

A 5VZ-FE (3.4) swap might end up costing a lot of money. I would imagine a decent 3.0 head isn't terribly expensive, and you'd do the head gasket while you're there. Then you should be good to go for years to come.

The 3.0's are not renowned for mileage or acceleration, but my friends' auto 3.0 spinning 35's is not annoying slow. And it still gets double digits mileage.

If you think you've got the time and money for a 3.4 swap, go for it. You'd definitely have a lot of power to move around. I don't remember if they accept the 3VZE tranny though.

"toyotacarpart.com" is a legit company that rebuilds and sells both the 3.0 and 3.4 longblocks, as well as assembled heads, etc.. They're based in Colorado Springs. Prices are very competitive, and engines have a decent warranty. Not sure about what additional parts are needed for the 3.4 swap, though.

Couldant have said it better. They do take to the 3.0 trannys, thats why it such a popular swap for 3.0 owners.

There are a billion 3.4 swap threads. Just google it.
