93 4Runner Rear Defog

Hello! I've read many of the threads and posts about this topic, but still need some advice. The rear defog does not work. I've checked the fuse and it is ok. The rear wiper and rear wiper fluid both work. I suspect it is a loose wire or bad connection. I figured out how to remove the tailgate panel, and discovered there is some type of clear plastic seal in place that is not easy to remove, so I figured it's definitely there for a reason. My main question is if I can remove that seal or not. If necessary, I can post a pic of the tailgate with the panel removed to show the seal.

Thank you!

Yes, you can pull the plastic up, I'm guessing the leads came off the glass. Pull the plastic and get some spray adhesive to attach it back when you are done.

Hey,
Just took my rear tailgate apart. I had the same problem and found it was a wire that had rusted off. The Spade Connection broke. Easy fix, about 10 cents. lol. I found it MUCH easier to do this with the gate down...

Mine is rusted off on the rear window also. I'll get around to fixing it someday. You'll want to raise your rear window just enough so it's easier to work on. To do this, lower the rear hatch, use a screwdriver to close the latches on both sides. They need to click twice. Then, you can raise the window using your key. Just raise it enough so you can easily work on the bottom part of the window.
