I just dropped my 4Runner off at my mechanics to get the motor rebuilt. It had 285,580 miles on it. The only problem with the motor is that one of the cylinders wasnt holding any pressure. Other then that it runs great especially for having 285,580 miles.

The Damage to the walet is not going to be to bad, He gave me the estimate of $1,000-1,300. Not as bad as i thought. This mechanic is really good, he is the one that i always took my Jetta too.

thats pretty steep for an exaust valve (my guess on the problem)..but i guess shop rates just keep going up these days..

That is the main problem, but im not only getting that fixed, i am getting the entire motor rebuilt. I am also getting the bearings on the back right and left fixed. The Idler arm up front, The steering pump replaced. The reverse lights fixed, and the rear defrost. The total for the motor went up to $1,600 and the total for everything is now up to $2,400. And that doesnt even include buying new rear tires (Dueler Revos). But what could you get for $2,400 with no problems, that is why i am fixing her.

I have a 94 runner and the dealership just told me that the idler arm or the relay rod had a recall on it and they would take care of it. I'm no mechanic but you may want to check this out. May save you a few bucks.
