Found a write-up for exhaust manifold

Hi everyone,
New to the forum and registered just to reply. I have been pondering all the same things above and found a complete full detailed write-up for a 3vze exhaust manifold install.

Plus side..... kit is actually only $650

The first 12 pages are very exciting, the last of it though is a bummer. I messaged this person recently 4-20-2013 and asked him a few questions on the vehicle since hes done the mod....

His reply was that even though he babied the heck out of his engine, the dreaded headgasket was the end of the vehicle.

It was very dissapointing because I want the acceleration and speed enhancment but he said that there is nothing to be done with the 3vze... its a timebomb just waiting to explode.

If no one else is familiar though.... there was a factory recall on the 3vze headgasket that is still active today. you can search your VIN and see if your vehicle falls under the recall. they will still honor the recall and you can get a free headgasket job!!

somethings i have heard and learned since owning a 3.0
hard for anyone to believe the tips i will give seeing as i have an 88 (1st half of 88) with original Japanese head gaskets at 330xxx miles. 88.5 and later feel under a V06 head gasket recall. the 1st half of 88 toyota used thicker headgaskets that you cant get anymore. the V06 replace gaskets was thinner and can blow the gasket again

with that said i have since done downey header with cross over under the truck ( what we see with every toyota 4.0 V6) so saying the cross over isnt what causes is BS. i also know the the 3.4 v6 had its share of blown headgaskets as well when it was first released. toyota caught on early and fixed it so we dont hear to many about it compared to the 3.0 which they sold tons and took a while to get a recall out.

-headers will help imo but not cheap option
-run toyota red or pink coolant only. the other coolants are not great for our blocks due to the metal used
-make sure you have good clean ground wires. if you have original ones, just replace them now. im sure if you cut the rubber off, it will be all corroded
-make sure you cooling system is working, water pump, fan, fan clutch, drive belt, t stat, radiator and clean radiator fins
-valves check and adjusted

toyota has been cracking down on long over due recalls such as the V06 and at one time stopped paying for them but i have heard of dealers still doing them. if you have one not done, go do it. at that time, toyota will only pay for all related gaskets. you should out of YOUR pocket, pay extra for the t belt, water pump, drive belts, t stat, valve adjustment, knock sensor wire, and any related hoses along the way that the tech finds hard and old.
