i want to buy a chip for better gas mpg. i want to know if its worth it and how i would install. also what tools would i need?

They rock, I get 28mpg after installing mine. You'll need a left-handed torque wrench to change your blinker fluid after installing the chip though.

I use a combination of injector cleaner and melted wax. It goes in the little bag inside your left rear access panel.

Is that what that little bag is for? Now the "BF" stamp makes sense. I think the PO removed the filler tube when he installed an exhaust recycling pump. Sends heated exhaust back into the engine which gives me an extra 35HP. Really opens up this 3.0.

HA! I put one in my old stock '95 and immediately got better mileage than a Prius, and I doubled the hp of my V6 (that would make it about 50 hp total, I think--LOL)!
In case you haven't got the drift yet, 4runnercaruso, there is NO chip for the 1st or 2nd Gen 4Runners. You CAN have the computer reprogrammed--JET Performance does this. All the blatant sarcasm is because those "glorious, all-powerful" chips rarely get anywhere close to their claims, and are basically just raking in people's money for next-to-nothing in return.

what does reprogramming do for power and such? this is a real question btw, ive heard about doing this but do the benefits out way the cost? never really read up on it. would be nice though because i have an extra computer just sitting in my garage.

Well, first off, the last time I checked on it the cost was around $300 for the JET package--you send the computer to them, they tinker with it, and send it back. In all honesty, I don't know what all they do to it, but it's supposed to optimize the fuel curve, ignition, etc., according to what you've added to your engine. It's really more for power production, but by taking some strain off the engine by making a bit more power, it will likely boost economy some as well. Your best bet would be to contact JET directly, and see if they have dyno tests for your rig. I still wouldn't count on huge gains by itself, but if you combined it with freer-flowing intake and exhaust (especially headers), it might give a pretty good boost. I was considering this route back when I still had a 3.slow, but it's still a lot of money for the small gains it's likely to give.

What, you've never opened up the special "chip receptacle" port on your intake? Geez, and I thought you knew your trucks!
