95 runner 4wd transmission issue

Hello all i have a 95 3vze auto 4wd

Tranny wont shift up to 3rd as i accelerate. And sometimes when i stop it takes a while to down shift to first. And sometimes from a stopped position, as i press on the accelorator it takes a little bit for the 1st to kick in, and when it does it really kicks in.

what could it be?

I'm no expert, but since nobody else is jumping I'll say that this sounds like shift solenoids.

I would start by checking the fluid level and condition.
After that you may need to have the tranny checked by a reputable shop that knows older Toyota 4Runners.
