Okay, not really... but I bet I got you really excited, right? :naughty: It sounds like a diesel, though.
Did the timing belt and valve cover gaskets on my '96 T4R. SR5 V6 (5VE-SE). When I did the work, some of the plastic from the wire loom was brittle and broke. A piece fell under one of the cams, so I pulled the cam, and put everything back together. When I did this, I had that cam about 30 degrees out because like a jackass, I didn't follow my FSM telling me the alignment marks were on the firewall side of the gears.
Anyhow, the motor ran (kind of) fine like that for a while with a CEL, etc. I ended up figuring that out, and got it fixed. Now, she runs fine, but ticks like a diesel. From what I understand, these motors are non-interference, so I wouldn't think I bent a valve. Power is fine, and it's been running like this for about 2k miles with no smoke, or any other issues. I have not done a compression test (yet). It's incredibly annoying, however. Any ideas?
From what I also understand, these are a shim and bucket valvetrain design, so adjusting the valves isn't quite the easiest task in the world.
Thanks!
