That puddle must have been fun driving through. Those are great pictures. Too bad there are no good trails where I live! Also, it looks like your truck needs a little bit of a cleaning! :biggrin2:

Thanks also. I think it is lifted by 1 1/2" . I have changed the factory Toyota coils to OME 881 up front and OME 891 at the back, I will be putting on Goodyear MTR 265/75R16 (32") when my factory Goodyear RT/S 265/70R16 (30.5") tires wears out, these factory ones are not cutting it, crappy on deep packed snow.
Do you have factory tires on?
 
I actually have Mich- LTX-MS on them now. Im not a extreme off-roader YET..lol. Im actually ordering a set of Bridgestone Revos. I am also looking for 2" spacers for front and rear
 
I heard a lot of people say the Michellin LTX M/S are great on muddy roads, is that true? Are the Bridgetone Revos more agressive offroad than the Michellins?
I might be putting on Goodyear MT/R on my 4Runner when the stock tires wear out. There are a lot of spacer options there. Also there is also the option on going SAS, SAW, or new coils.
 
the LTX are definately more of a Road tire. I would compare them to the Goodyear RTs?. Thats just my opinion. The REVOS are definately more aggressive than the LTX, but inferior to the MTRs. I have heard a lot about the MTRs and how well they perform offroad. I personally am not an avid offroader so Im going to go with the Revos. Have you heard anything about Cornfed Suspension?
 
The Goodyear RT/S are crappy on packed snow. I have been trying to go up the mountains with them but no luck, they're good on dry and wet roads. I am going with MT/Rs cause I like the outdoors and I do go offroad quite a bit. I know it will not be good for the wet weather we have here in WA but I'm hoping it will be a good tire. I'm an avid offroader but with the 4Runner so pretty, I will limit myself to mild trails.

Cornfed suspensions are great also.

What year is your 4Runner?

Have you heard of Revtek?
They're a good brand too, 3" total lift.
Also there is the Racerunner SAW 0-3" adjustable lift, ($600-700)

I have a 1996 SR5. the thing is, i dont have copious amounts of $$$$. haha. I wanted to do something along the lines of a budget boost. i spend all my money on food(im a college student). I just started getting intrested in the off-roading. But the thing is, i have 180,000 miles on my 4 runner. Do you think its worth it. ANd would i need to change my shocks?
 
Budget Power Boost:

Deckplate Mod around $30 or less

Flowmaster 40 Series or 50 Series (40 is freaking loud) $120 the
most, that includes them installing it.

Revtek 3" Spacer Lift. <$500 installed

If you do a suspension upgrade, IE new spacers coils, Yes you should change shocks, I am running Old Man Emu and they ride fine, like factory, just a little stiffer.

180k is fine, just keep the oil changed and keep an eye on the timing belt.
 
wow you guys are using it like it should be used :bowdown: just a question: would climbing rocks like that mess up the alignment?
 
Heck yeah. Drive it like it's a Toyota. Well carefully of course. Climbing rocks? Just like any other driving situation, if you drive reckless or bounce up and down on the rocks, then yeah. I do need an alignment after 32k miles and I drive a lot offroad and backroads so I think the answer is yes.
 
Revos- Once you own a set you will never buy another tire... We actually had a big discussion about this over on yotatech a whlie back. I would rather have the Duller A/T Revos than any Mud-Terrain. Mud terrains are good for one thing, mud. I have never run M/Ts personally but all I can say is I went through uwharee with about 20% of the tread left and made it through everything it could dish out Click Here For Pics . They even made it through a hole that had been dug out twice by another 4Runner with 305 BFG M/Ts. and mine were stock size. Then the on-road traction is un-touched. Espcially in the wet. Drive a truck with them or try a set for your self. I promise you won't be dissappointed.

As for lifts, IMHO... I wouldn't go with the spacer lift. If money is tight I would just go with the body lift for $200 and install it yourself (its REALLY EASY and there are plenty of writeups plus RodgerB is a really nice guy and will help you out) then later I would save up for the ome coils. With the spacer you don't really get any more flex it just pushes the shock assembly down and achieves lift. Plus with the body lift you aren't messing with your center of gravity. If your going to do that, you might as well get some extra flex out of it with real coils. If you have the choice then get the coils off the bat from Mike at xtremeoff-road.com Tell him austin sent you... hes a really nice guy and fellow 4Runner owner. I get pretty much all my mod stuff from him.

Nice looking truck, but dude... you have to do something about those running boards!! They just get in the way off road and its a free body lift! Try it! I have a write-up thing on my site HERE It takes no time and you can put them right back on if you want. Personally they just got in my way because i'm so tall so that was the first thing I did to my truck. Do the deckplate mod, and go over to yotatech and check out the write-ups there. There are a bunch of cheap mods you can do yourself. Good luck!
