I am new to the 4Runners, but have a chance to purchase to purchase a 97 4Runner at a great price. Good interior and a southern truck with no rust, which is somewhat unusual here in the midwest. The downside is that the current owner thought it had a head gasket issue and has disassembled the top half of the engine and has gotten in way over his head. Rather than attempt to figure out what the original problem was and what the current owner has potentially messed up, I thought that it would be easier just to swap in a used engine. The truck has 131K on it. I have located a suitable 3.4 out of a wrecked 97 4Runner for 1K. For me the numbers add up pretty well. I have read a few threads regarding engine swaps but wanted to get some feedback on how difficult this engine swap is to perform. I have a garage, compressor and air tools and engine hoist and engine stand already, I just haven't attempted a swap on this new a 4x4.
