97 exhaust replace

well since my runner is from minnisota, the exhaust is quite rusty; leaks, cracks in the muffler, plus someone jacked my cat (just have a pipe welded in its place).

I am looking to replace my whole exhaust system. I will just get some pipe bent and weld up the system with a friends help.

Some questions I have.
what diameter pipe is recomended 2.5" OK?
recomendations on mufflers/resonators? Im looking for a stock sounding exhaust as I just daily it, I little rubble would be fine though haha

Stock exhaust is 2.25" but going up to 2.5" would be fine if all the other components are 2.5". Are you putting a cat back on it or no?

As far as the muffler goes, sky is the limit. I just put a Cherry Bomb Vortex on mine a few weeks ago because my stock one was leaking. At first it was pretty loud but has since mellowed out a little bit. Nice little rumble over stock but not obnoxious.

Sorry to be an ***, but it's Minnesota...

As far as replacement goes, I'd keep an eye out for exhaust components from salvage yards. If you're putting a cat back in and since you don't have the stock piping anyway, I'd just get a universal weld-in one since they're cheap and all aftermarket cats are about the same.

I am not going to replace the cat (it is not required here) and I get better milage haha.

would I just need a muffler or do I need a resonator as well? Last time I looked under my runner I thought I saw one?

does anyone know where I can get the down pipe (the part that connects to ther header)?

when my converter was stolen they chopped it at the curve.

I called my local yards but they dont mess with exhaust.
