One thing I don't like about the limited cladding is the amount of protection the rear running board end cap protects. It leaves the body seam exposed to tire debris. On the wrecked 96 the non limited piece covers the body seam. Protecting it from abrasion.

This morning after work I got a alignment. It was toe out to the right over 1 degree.

Caster is .1-.2 out of spec forward. But couldn't get the rear lower control arm cams to move. So we left the camber as it is. I'll deal with the rusted cams on both lowers when I do bushings.

It drives much nicer.

These are the things I need to do yet to make me happy.

1) install the TrueCool trans cooler.

2) remove and paint the rear hitch.

3) wire wheel the frame rust and paint (ZeroRust and Rustoleum Chassis Black)

4) replace the fan clutch with the fan assembly from the wrecked 96.

5) front axle and transfer case oil change.

6) drop trans pan and filter change and clean magnets.

7) replace rear hatch with one off wrecked 96.

8) replace front and rear bumpers with the bumpers off the 96. Front on 97 is dented. Rear has rust holes.

I gave my wife the keys. So now I will have to pry her hands off the steering wheel to work on it. She loves it.

I am a fan of black vehicles, for the most part. I don't think I've seen a black 4Runner I didn't like, they always look good and only get better with armor and a lift.

Sweet looking puppy, definitely looks like they get in plenty of trouble and Mr Yokko has some kick ass eyes!

I have three yellow labs, one almost white. Two of them are rescues from my days with the SPCA. Keep them long enough and they are hard to give up as most don't hide how very thankful they are to be in a better situation than before.

All three are rescues. We had a 4th a Rottie we named Luna. She died of cancer. Baby Dee is her replacement. Yokko was a foster that turned into a adoption.

So, today I found a replacement blade for the rear wiper. I'll post a picture.

Also during the drain and fill of the trans I didn't like what I saw. The oil seemed pinkish. After draining the transfer case and filling it. I pored the ATF into a jug and the bottom of the pan had white streaks in it. I wish I would have cleaned the pan. It had stuff in it.

As for the transfer case oil change.......the fill plug had a aluminum crush washer and the drain didn't. So I put that plug with the washer on the drain port and will get a bunch of 18mm aluminum washers from Dave at the motorcycle shop.

As mentioned by one or two others before, that cooler is big. It barely fit in the opening of the rad support. I ended up using the Tee stalks and the rubber cushions. It is spaced about 1/8 inch off the condenser. Someone with the big TrueCool (4589 I think) needs to post up a picture of the mount position and brackets.

I installed a inline magnefine filter in the supply line to the cooler. And spaced out the horn on the right side to clear the cooler.

Drove 6 miles below 45 to keep the torque converter from locking up and drive 6-7 miles.

Inlet to cooler was 125 with my temp gun and outlet was 95 or 98 I forget now. With 47 degree outside temp.

I ordered a digital thermalcouple display to monitor the trans temp inlet to the cooler. I'll use the small junction wire and slide it in between the cooler line and the nipple and reclamp the hose.

Tonight we drove it about 13 miles with it at 34 degrees outside and inlet temp was 114 degrees F with my temp gun.

I'm being called into work for shift coverage on Saturday night. I may drive the Toy and see what the trans temp is after a 32 mile commute.

Key fob programed has excellent range. Not bad for 14 dollars on Amazon. It's funny though. The fob has 4 buttons and only one is used.

Nice work so far. I, too, am trying to work out all the maintenance on my truck.

There's a few in the $14-$17 range but none specify 1997 or 1998 4runners.

So drove to my brothers and then to work. Trans inlet temp at Hershey after 37 back roads and city miles was 129 degrees. Outlet temp was 109. We will see what happens in summer with this self temp regulating design. Outside temp was raining and 42.
