Brock tacoma air box
Hi guys,
I know this is a old thread but I had a question about this swap. I was able to find a link to amazon from a Tacoma world fourm post for a new air box. Theres a company that makes whole replacement air boxes for the 99-04 Tacomas. The brand is called Brock. Here is the link.

From what I can tell it looks identical to the 00-02 4runner airbox with the updated style MAF. I've looked at pictures for a few minutes now of a 4runner one and the Tacoma one they look the same. Anyone have any input on this? If I do this swap I would just buy this new air box. I'd much rather buy a brand new one and also not have to mess with the volvo s60 tube for my 1998 air box. Chances are a even if I just got a 00+ airbox would also have cracks somewhere since it's 20 year old plastic that's just a given. The brock looks the same and also looks like a quality replacement. Thanks!

Yeah I saw that. I mean surley it can't be that weak. My guess is that they broke theirs from trying to muscle their air tube back on to the outlet too hard. At least it's new plastic not old plastic haha. The clips on the lid that hold it closed also tend to be broken as well on used ones. I guess well see about that when I get one. Makes the swap a lot easier. Just have to buy the box on amazon and buy the MAF from rock auto then re pin the connector and I am good to go.

Yes it did! I actually went with one on amazon from a different company. it is called A-Premium I found another listing for the Tacoma air box on amazon with better reviews. None said they broke the MAF tube off so I figured they were decent. Same design as the brock one. The 2000+ 4Runner air boxes are identical to the Tacoma ones with the drop in style MAF. But the legs and everything is the same as the 96-98 boxes. Only difference is what MAF it uses. The A-Premium box is good but they are pretty cheap for a reason. They don't feel close to as sturdy as the OEM boxes but it's just an air box it's not being banged around. The old box is very rigid and hard while the new cheap one is more flexible and soft. The a-premium one they also cheap out on the springs on it. I took the lid springs and the holder springs on the inside of the box from original one and put them in there. I also used my original lid from my air box since the one on the new box just felt really flimsy and was warped in an arch. But i am happy with the airbox. It does it's job and allows me to get a new airbox without paying for overpriced old cracked plastic. Just gotta use some of your old parts and bolts from the OG box and it's golden. I went on rock auto and purchased a Denso 1976020 for the MAF. Re-pinning was super easy all said and done this conversion took maybe 30 minutes if that to do. Definitely worth it in my opinion. Ditch the old bullet style MAF with this conversion is the way to go. You get much better airflow because of the less restrictive design, which doesn't matter for us N/A dudes but I have noticed a increase in my MPG and also power / responsiveness now. I get around 225 - 250 miles mix of city and highway driving on one fill up now. I think my old bullet style MAF was tired lol.
