First my problem and then some background on the vehicle.
A couple days ago I started having a little bit of power loss when starting to accelerate from a stop. The 4runner would be a little jumpy when turning onto a street or starting up from a stop light, but then would drive fairly decent. I thought at first it might be my tran fluid but i checked that and it is good. I put in some octane boos and injector cleaner last night(didnt drive more then 5 miles home thoug) and today the problem is just getting worse. I have a real loss of power while driving around town and the vehicle is just real sluggish.
A little history. It is a 97 4runner sr5 rwd v6 with 170k on it. Ive owned it for about 7 months now. After owning it for about a month I kept throwing a CEL for a missfire on cylinder 2. The truck ran fine though, but I tried swapping out wires and coil pack and plugs to see if I could get the code to jump cylinders. it never did however and the only thing i didnt swap was the Fuel injector. I drove it for a about a hundred miles with the cel on and then it just turned off and hasnt returned since(this has been about three months) Im resetting the computer now(unpllugging battery) and am going to take it on a spin now to see if a code comes back. First question is will the computer learn to accept the code after a while on a missfire and just ignore turning the cel back on? Second is where should i begin on diagnosing the problem? Take the cat or exaust off? Flush Tranny fluid? Replace plugs whires/(previous owner claims he changed them and timing belt just before i bought it) Could it be the rear diff?
Engine revs fine while in park or neatraul, but under load it just losses everything. I can drive it but its very un-responisve
Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated
