97 Starting Issues

*Fixed It!* Thanks Everyone.

I just wanted to check with you folks for any ideas on this issue.

1997 T4R. It will not try to crank with several turns of the key. Then it will try for 1/2 a second. Soon it will catch and turn over. This problem is getting worse. On occasion, the starter has continued to run when the engine started. All these issues began after an oil change at the shop, which makes me feel like a loosened wire or just a coincidence. Parts store said bad battery, but a new one did not resolve the issue. I will move on to replacing the starter next. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what I might need to take a look at before I change out the starter? Thanks.

Do some searches on here for "starter contacts". The Toyota starters are completely bulletproof, but the copper contacts inside wear out over time and need to be replaced. They are about $15 from Toyota. Hardest part is removing the starter from the vehicle. Once its out, replacing the contacts takes only 30 mins if you're slow like me.

Does the starter just spin and not engage?

Or, does it not even spin?

Sounds like your starter is worn out.

I used CoMarc's right up on Starter Contact Replacement and it fixed my problem. But, I didn't have an issue with my starter failing to disengage.
