'98 4runner with issues starting

Just recently my '98 4runner started acting up when attempting to start it. Upon turning the key over nothing no sounds whatsoever. After 3 or 4 times of doing so it would start. Can anyone help me here?

Sounds like it could be the solenoid going bad. First check and clean your battery connection and the connection at the starter.:reddance:

had this problem before and replaced the starter. fixed the problem.

The solenoid is the part of the starter that engages the starter to the flywheel. How many miles on your ride (and starter)?

From your description, it's likely worn starter solenoid contacts. Here's a write-up on how to go about replacing them.

I had similar symptoms a couple years ago. So I pulled the starter and found worn contacts just like in the linked thread. Less than $20.00 in parts, my time, and it starts just like new.
