....finally painted my licence plate frame. What a debacle. I removed it, painted it, re-installed it, closed the latch to walk inside as darkness was already upon me. Give the latch release a test-pull to make sure it was working.... it wasn't. Spent the next few hours in the dark and cold, removing the hatch interior panel from the INSIDE (after partly disassembling my sleeping platform to make room) only to find that all it needed was a sharp pull from the outside and it would pop open again..... lesson everyone - dont reassemble until you have tested the latch. :mad2:

THanks Addison! The Taco is treating me just fine..... it's fun to drive, and kinda nice to come into the 21st Century! lol! It's definitely got more power than the 4Runner.... I can easily break the rear end loose without any trouble.... but that could land you in trouble in the winter.... so I tend to keep it in 4X4 on snowy days.

Anyway.... back to your rig.... looks great! Very clean looking, and the rear licence plate piece looks great!

Well I've started playing around with video now that my new camera can shoot 720 @ 60fps and 1080 @ 30fps. I also borrowed my brother's GoPro Hero2 recently so I thought I would make a little compilation of clips from my trip to Waterton on the weekend as well as some filler.

I'm a complete NOOB when it comes to filming and editing, so take it easy on me guys..... I've got a lot to learn.

Some things I'm already noticing:
- Editing was done on Final Cut Pro X and it seems like it dropped some frames thus the "green flashes". I tried to re-render it several times and had no good results. Might have to try Adobe Premier as I really dont like the way Final Cut is set up. Hoping to get something more Lightroom-esque with the Premier counterpart.
- I need to shoot 720p @ 60 fps if I will be slowing the clips down to avoid the choppiness
- I need a tripod that pans more smoothly.
- I see a Rhino Slider in my future

Anyways, nothing hardcore just a few clips of the 4Runner for me to practice with here:

I bought some used Lightforce 170's today and they are getting delivered on Friday as long as the deal follows through... I was planning on doing all LED lightbars but I keep finding myself wanting more options for filters. My rig sees a lot of snow, fog, dust, rain, etc. so I want a light that is going to be useful in all the situations I throw at it. The lightforces will work perfect for this as I can swap out the filters for every situation. Once the bulbs burn out, they will also get a HID treatment to further their "usefulness". Not to mention, I'm a sucker for round off-road lights on the front of the rig. I still plan on supplementing them with some small LED's though.

My question for you is where do I mount them? On the bumper or on the front of the Whitson rack?

I'm thinking bumper...

I'd vote bumper too if you plan on using them for fogs at all. You can angle them on the bumper where you get the best of all worlds.

I'm a novice myself but just throwing it out there if it helps you narrow down the problem. And I was using, Imovie, not sure about the version, on my Mac.

And I've used adobe premier, and there video software is balls. I'm sure you know this from the photography side but its great stuff. Looking forward to more.

Thanks man! Yeah I read a few things regarding the green frames but I'm just going to try and switch to Adobe.... Yeah video is cool, I'm definitely looking forward to shooting some trail footage this weekend!

The glare back from the hood, and the snow in front of the windshield would not be ideal in bad conditions. It will also be easier to swap filters with them on the front bumper, vs the roof rack.

I definitely have to agree with you on that one, sliders make for some great footage. I use a Glide Gear dev-1000, which is probably the best of the worst haha but fits my needs. I travel very frequently and wanted something strong that could be thrown around in a plane without getting damaged. It was only about 100 bucks and has held up great. I have a friend that uses the Rhino and it is pretty sweet its got some new kinda bearing system going on instead of the friction type...Ill probably get one down the road but for now I've gotta keep saving for some tires so I can actually get offroad lol! That dual head tripod does look pretty cool I've never seen one like that before. Looking forward to some more vid's and pictures!

Yah I forgot to mention that the big deterant for the LED's is the $$$. I know there are some great options out there for a reasonable price but to get the research, accessories, and quality I want I would have to go Rigid. $$$$ They sure are nice though....

I still want some LED's for the rear and am probably going to get some 4" round LED's for my bumper ports.

I'll have to check your slider out. For $100 that may be the way to go... I'm no pro I just like the Kickstarter campaign for the Rhino Slide and I like the fact you can use suction mount on the legs etc. Seems very well designed. Actually my brother who lent me his GoPro wanted to buy the Rhino slide if I buy a good panning tripod head. It will be nice to split the costs with him and we can simply share our equipment... other than my 6D, he's not touching that! hahah
