98 V6 3.4L will not start

Hello,
Have a brand new alternator, battery is good, have checked my fuses, and relay.

I put the key in the ignition and turn it, I get a very soft clickclickclick. Had my starter replaced and it still wont turn on. Im pretty much ready to burn the damn thing to the ground , I've heard after you replace the starter it could be the ignition switch.

Anyone ever had these problems and could point me in the right direction?

additional details:
After we replaced the starter and I punched the key in, I got the same noise, re-tested brand new starter, it was fine, re-installed, power instantly shut off after I turned the key. I know electric comes before air and fuel for this vehicle, now im getting worried.

So just a quick update. I got it to start after re-installing the starter multiple times. The connection for the plastic peice that connects to the top of the starter is very loose. We couldn't get it to *click* into place. After finally pushing it in and moving the brass " - " peice with a screwdirver we got it to stay snug. Car started.

So this morning.. guess what.. car wouldn't start, now im pretty darn sure that it's the same plastic connection peice to the starter (Not the terminal bolt) does anyone know something that I can use to clip it on so it will stay snug?

Alright here's a picture and ill explain as best I can, please note this is not my starter but it will do the job.

So the part circled in red, the connection to that is loose, it never snapped in. When I did get my car to start it was snug. However this morning it wont start again, so I think it could be the plastic plug that I am putting into this slot. I was wondering if there is a clip I can use to keep it tight and snug.

Sounds like a loose connection on the big wires. Check your ground cable from the battery to the engine and the positive cable to the starter. You did hook up the (+) to the starter, right?

The battery cable would be located on the nut below the plastic plug in that picture.

Yea the bolt on the bottom is connected, the + terminal is fine. I think you may be right about the grounding, because I got it to start on sunday and it worked all day, then died again.

I dont know if you CAN get continuity from the plug that goes into the starter but I tried anyway and I didn't get anything.

Just as an update I tested for continuity on the plug that goes into the starter and it came back as nothing, I'm not even sure if you can test that for continuity but I did anyway.

Check the batt to engine ground wire. It is located on the drivers side under the oil filter housing. It wouldn't be a bad idea to unbolt and clean that area and check the wire for cracks or abrasions.

Check all batt terminals.

Check voltage of batt.

All in all if the connector plug on the starter is loose that is where the problem lies and could be an internal problem. That is a big problem with installing those starters ( not enough room and some tend to move or break when turning the starting to fit it correctly to the bell housing.)

Just some troubleshooting tips.
