99-02 Cup Holder mod PROs

Doing the cup holder mod. Scored what I thought was a decent 00 console, ebrake assembly and all the plug and play accessories.

After extensive cleaning, seems that the center black plastic cup holder section is pretty busted up looking. Has anyone "restored" this piece by sanding and painting or just throwing some paint on it...or should I just look for a better one and hope for the best....?

Also - anyone know if the REAR cupholders found on a 97 console are a compatible replacement for the 00 console.....???

Yes the rear fold out cup holders will interchange. Not sure on your other question.

It looked great initially - a "10 footer". Up close - once I removed 17 layers of spilled soft drinks, and other assorted hazardous materials - it was faded and "textured" from years of looking like they used it to transport pointed metal hardware and broken glass.....

That about covers it......:wtf:

You can certainly paint the black plastic, after some prep and a good self etching primer.

I'm getting ready to sell a '99+ console, complete with a near perfect black cupholder section. PM me if interested.

I can't believe this is an actual topic, but clean it good with Simple Green, and shoot it with Stoner Trim Shine for the next few months. It'll come around. Hit it every couple weeks or so with the Trim Shine. It'll revive it.

Don't paint it. It's black plastic; come on.

You can paint plastic just fine if you do it right, here is my painted dash bezel, SEM Trim Black:

Self etching primer is for metals like steel or aluminum. If OP decides to paint I recommend searching SEM products website for their ‘how to’ video and write up on how to paint plastics. Although it sounds like a serious cleaning of it and then it should look pretty good might be the fix.

Good call, I misspoke. I used SEM's Sand Free on the plastic, before hitting it with the Trim Black.
