99 4runner axle question-help needed!

I got my safety and emissions inspections done, everything went well except the rear brakes. Turned out the inner seals had gone bad and were leaking. Took care of that and got it all fixed, didn't pass again. They said it was because the anti-lock brake was having problems.

I question that the machine shop didn't assemble the bearings, ABS gear, and spacers properly. When the axle is all the way into the housing, I question if the ABS gear is located in the right spot. When looking into the ABS switch hole in the axle housing, is the ABS gear to be centered in the middle of the hole? Or is it offset to the right or left? Since both of the axles have been reworked by the machine shop, I can't compare to the other axle.

Does anybody know, or can someone who has their vehicled disassembled possibly remove their ABS sensor switch from the housing, look into the hole, and tell me if the ABS gear is centered in the hole, or offset left/right? And if anyone does, let me know whether you're looking at the driver's or passenger's side (so we don't get our lefts and rights confused).

Obviously mine is not centered, looking at the passenger side, it looks like the gear is in too far (to the left of the hole). I am going to go and pop off my front tires and get in there and see if I can compare that at all (which I probably can't but I am at a loss of what to do). In the meantime, any help or suggestions would really help me out here! On a couple of jackstands is definitely not where my 4runner belongs!!

Is your abs light on? You should have asked more questions and ask them (inspectors) to prove that the abs is malfunctioning. The situation stinks to me. And that abs ring in the axle doesn't have to be centered. It the light is off the system is probably fine

And what's the deal with these inspections. Are they required? In ca we don't have stuff like that.

No the ABS light is not on. I guess I can go back and ask them to prove it's not working.

Yeah, in Utah the safety and emissions inspections are required once a year to keep your car registered. I have heard they are thinking of doing away with it though, boy would that be convenient.

Was the light on before or after the seal replacement? If you go back to make the prove there is something wrong, you will look like an idiot.



Also, Just fyi incase you didnt know, when you abs light comes on, it means there is an issue with your abs system. It is not there to remind you that you have abs. Just fyi.

FWIW, the front abs hall generator ring is also not centered in the sensor hole.

Just curious how asking for clarification on how a gov agency came to a conclusion makes an American citizen look like an Idiot?

ah my bad. I look like the idiot. I miss read the second most and I thought it read that the abs light is on. Yeah, I would go back and challenge that.
