99 4runner shakes and shudders

Whenever i accelerate with some force, my runner shudders, like the power is not fully getting to the wheels. Im not sure why this is, and im pretty sure its not normal. could it be the transmission? the drive shaft?
any help would be useful

That sounds like a transmission slipping or a torque converter getting ready to grenade, assuming it's an automatic. Have you checked the tranny fluid? Check the level, color (strawberry milkshake, red, brown), smell (burnt). Check your coolant level too.

Sounds like it could be plugs and wires also. When did you last check them, can you describe the shudder more. Around what rpms, every time accelerating, any way you've solved it, ie letting off the gas for a second or something. Anything else...

yes it is an auto, sorry should have mentioned
all fluid is good
changed plugs last month
coolant level fine
and i replaced the transmission yoke attached to the drive shaft last month (and yes the problem was happening before i had to change the yoke)
basically when i pull away from a stop til i reach about 1500 rpms it shudders, coming from what feels like the front or frontal middle. to me it feels like something is slipping and not gtting into place correctly. if you can imagine two cogs that dont fit perfectly together and thats what i belive it feels like.

Does your CEL come on? I had something similar happen to my runner. Same shuddering when initially accelerating then stops at a higher rpm. There was a misfire in one of the cylinders and it ended up being the coil pack for that cylinder was bad.

No CEL but that sounds very similar...

Edit: just FYI that was my father who started the thread while i was at school and now im taking over since its my runner...

How many miles are on it? Has been gradually getting worse? It might be dirty injectors. Do you ever hear any knocking (it may be very faint)?

185k miles on it
cant really say its been getting worse or not, seems to be constant
and cant hear any knocking whatsoever

replace your wires now. Amazon.com: NGK (4412) TE66 Wire Set: Automotive . It will make a big difference. and then, you could always check the coil boots to make sure they didn't get torn.

going to replace the wires tomorrow morning, hopefully thatll make a difference.

i replaced the spark wires and it seems to have solved the problem.

I had the same issue, mine ended up being a bad ignition coil. Trace your wires back from the spark plug, should be two wires coming from each one. Could be a possibility for you, I thought my clutch was slipping when it did it.
