99 4x4 cold weather hard start

yeah its for taking out a starter, youre right. but you have to take the starter out. so follow them, then once its out, all you do is open up the end, and you will see what needs to be replaced. 2 copper contacts. they will have a sharp edge to them, and when compared to the new ones, will be much thinner. look up starter contacts on yotatech and it will help you out if you need to. but basically you have to dissassemble a couple parts to get to them, but its nothing hard, and swap out the contacts.

this is just ironic for all of us. I am having the exact same problem. I was going to grab some new plugs, but it seems like the contacts are the problem.

so would it be best for the hole entire starter or just the contacts to be replaced??

depends on your situation and what issues you have. most of the time its the contacts if youre getting the intermittent "starts the second or third time i click it over." when you have narrowed it down to being the starter, it is most likely the contacts is what we are saying. its an easy fix for 15 bucks versus the 200 without labor for a starter.

see when its cold its liek 3 or 4 times till it goes then it will and im not worried about the labor since i got cost on parts from the deal and i have a tech who will do it but its just less money is better so most liekly it probly is just the contacts thats wat i thought and its understandable for a 96 since it is 10 years old thanks i apperciate the help

ok so it finnally just gave up just keept clicking wont start at all so first thing monday its going to the shop since my mom works up there to get fixed probly contacts hopefully thats what it sounds like just keeps clicking so i will let everybody no what has caused it on monday

so what happened? am having a problem also with cold starts in the morning or after a long stand by of the ruck in the parking lot.

but when you start while it's warm, it is doing fine. the starter is cranking but it seems that during cold starting, i need to press the gas pedal to help the engine.
