99 Factory key fob/alarm locks but won't unlock doors

Hey Guys

Searched but didnt find anything.

Here's the issue: My 99's factory alarm/key fob was working fine. I noticed it stopped working or required a few presses of the button to work, so I figured the battery was low. Replaced it, and it worked great once but after then, I've had this issue. The lock works fine and arms the car. The unlock on the key fob will not unlock the doors. It's a pain because I have to manually lock/unlock the doors now (if I use the lock to arm and key to unlock the alarm goes off).


The buttons inside the car work just fine. I've tried reprogramming the remote to no avail. Either I wasn't doing it right, or there is some other issue. Strange that is UNLOCK/disarm only.

any thoughts? maybe its an issue with the alarm "brain"?

Sounds like a bad button perhaps? Take it to the dealer and the parts counter will check it out for you free of charge.

Or autozone, Home Depot, lowes, usually has the battery display by the counter with the fob checker. Could check for yourself if the unlock is transmitting.

Or you could just buy one off amazon for cheap and program it. I have 2 of the amazon ones and they work great

'99 SR5 cannot program remotes and cant find ECU

Did anyone figure this out? I have the same '99 SR5, key FOB stopped working. Bought two on Amazon, but I cannot get the truck to go into programming mode. Tried 20 plus times, even read about manually "locking and unlocking" rather than the door buttons. I have searched and searched. No black box under seat, not under dash or in kickpanel, even tried the rear hatch. Truck is all stock except an aftermarket radio installed by PO, power antenna is broke off. Other than that, stock. How can I "reset at the box", or better yet, where is the box?
