You should be fine with the factory bars. I have a set of aftermarket Thule bars and they sit a bit higher than the stock ones.

And I find that really hard to believe they're anywhere close to 84". I ride on the ferries all the time with stacks of surfboards 3 to 4 high and they ding you for more money anytime you're over the 7'6" (78") mark. The only time they tried to charge me more was when I left a few fins on.

99 spring part numbers:
Front Passenger Side Springs - Blue / Yellow (48131-35400)
Front Driver Side Springs - Blue / Pink (48131 - 35350)
Both Rear Springs - Yellow / Red (48231 - 35210)

Pros: Fairly inexpensive, OEM ride quality.
Cons: Small amount of lift. (might be all you want)
 
Hi and thank you Riceye.

That's the thread where I found out about the tall highlander springs. I'm a first time 4Runner owner. I just got a 99 SR5 with 255K miles on it last week. I need to address a sagging problem and thought the tall springs would be a good option.

What um wondering is how difficult it is to replace the front springs. I've got access to a spring compressor, but not sure how to decompress the spring safely one the old one is removed to install the new one.

If anyone has insight to this procedure, that would be very helpful.

This is a great tutorial.

I have 99 tall springs front and rear on my 2000. I installed them along with Bilstein 5100 struts up front (Tacoma application, 2nd perch setting), and Bilstein HD shocks on the rear. I also have a set of Air-Lift 1000 air bags in the rear coils.

I love this setup.

Edit: I think I now see what you mean. The spring compressor can be gradually loosened once the spring is removed from the strut assembly. Gradually is the key word, here. Then, the new spring can be compressed in reverse order and mounted within the strut. I have several vice-grip pliers that I lock onto the coil adjacent to the compressor to keep it from "walking". It is always a bit of an adrenaline rush doing them, nonetheless.

Alternatively, you should be able to find a shop that has one of the deluxe wall-mounted contraptions that would do the swap for you at a nominal cost. Some prefer this route, as it is probably cheaper than an ER visit or insurance deductible.

There is always this method.

Follow up on this conversation:

Any recommendations for front/rear LOWER coil insulators that will go nicely with '99 talls? I've been trying to chase a front rattle for 6 months (replacing everything in process). Realized today I don't have insolators UNDER my coils. Hopefully that will help with the �� Stoopid me thought I didn't need with Bilstein 5100's

Hoping someone replaced their lower insolators with cushy aftermarket that works. Thank you!!!
