Hey all, I am a new owner. Just got it for my birthday. My plan is to install an upgraded power inverter in the rear pass storage space that connects directly to the battery. I will put a kill switch for the inverter and an actual power outlet from the inverter in the space. I post pics when complete. You can get great super powerful inverters from Harbor Freight for cheap.

I noticed a change that I haven't seen mentioned yet....
The license plate garnish changed @ some point... not sure if it changed for the '99 model year though.

Headrest holders!!!!
Unbeleviable!, I bought my 99 limited 6 months ago.
I found the "hidden" center console compartment about 2 months later.
And now, untill i saw the pics on this thread, are the head rest keepers.
I was literally complaining about what ****ty design to not have a place to put the head rests. Wow, I love this truck.
I had a 2000 tacoma, and i think this model 4runner is the best toyota ever designed. Im never getting rid of her!
And I loved the post about the cop not finding the "stach" in the center console.

Just went to the garage to look for this pocket and I don't have it !!! :shrug:
Do you have leather seats? I think only the cloth seat runners had them. I put maps in mine a couple times and most recently some shells I found that my girlfriend wanted to keep to make into jewelery. Its a safe place where they wouldn't get crushed by anything else.

I like that idea ^ and you are right, I do have leather.
i have a pioneer dbl din without a power antenna output so i put a rocker switch in the space to the left because i hate my antenna going up and down when i turn the car on.

WOW! I read this thread and thought to myself 'wow those'd be nice to have on my 2001', and I was thinking you did these yourself. But last night I was putting my subs in and realized I have them too!! Nice.

Yeah,I discover some things on my cars well after I owned them. No mods in this thread just the stock upgrades.
The headrest holders are a nice simply upgrade that comes in more handy then you'd think since the headrests would get beat up and dirty just placed on the floor.

i took my seat covers off and found the little pocket in the passengers side :lol: i had forgot it was there, and my Taurus PT-22 fits quite nice there, better then in the door. and i love there are more than enough 12v plugs in the front :biggrin2:

My 96 SR5 roof console holds business cards. It works fine and would be a great place to keep a gas card if you use one. I use it to keep an extra ID and a little $ in case I need it. When I got my truck I noticed that several covers over the seat mounts and bolts were missing. On a trip to the yard to pick up some parts I saw matching covers on a 99 and grabbed all of them. They were larger and covered the whole bracket up to the seat. It looks much more finished when I open the door!

I love the headrest holders. It was one of the first things that I noticed when dropping down the rear seats. I've had 3 first gen and 2 second gen Runners. It was about time for this. My favorite thing is the ability to roll up the power windows after turning off the ignition. I have a long driveway and I get a kick out of turning the truck off and closing her up as it rolls up to my front door.
