Replacement antenna breaks after 4 months

I had finally gotten around to replace the antenna and went with an eBay special. I also followed ripcords lead and added a switch. This past weekend after starting up the truck the antenna motor goes off wieven though my switch is "off" meaning the deck isn't relaying a signal. To make matters worse when I flick the switch to put up the antenna it goes half way up!

So I know I know the antenna internals are disconnected but why is my antenna motor going off?? I even in plugged the dech cable from my switch in case there was any short by chance and still the motor goes off when I turn the truck on!

I'll be replacing the antenna using the taco whip mod since the performance sucks on the current antenna but I still want to know how the motor is going off when I turn on the truck but no signal is being sent from the deck?? Just really curious, thanks.

This is hard to follow. You say your motor goes "off" but it sounds like you mean it's energized

Question 1. Is your HU OEM or Aftermarket? If aftermarket, what brand/model?

Question 2. When you say you replaced the antennae, did you replace the entire antennae or just the mast? I'm thinking you just did the mast which would explain a lot.

The way the system works OEM is the deck supplies a signal (in radio mode)to the antennae relay which energizes the antennae. In CD or tape mode the antennae is de-energized.

If you have an aftermarket HU, the signal (usually a blue or blue/white wire) supplies the signal as soon as the HU is powered on. Now some HU's have 2 signal wires, one for an external amp and one for an antennae. Furthermore some do work like OEM meaning the signal is energized and de-energized with the radio. These units usually will have the separate signal wires too.

I had a growling antenna motor on both my T4R's. On one I used the $60 kit to replace the antenna. On the other I simply cut the teflon gear off at the antenna. I can put the antenna up or down manually. When I start the car with the radio on; the antenna raising motor runs for 5 or 6 seconds and stops. When I shut it down it does the same thing. At some point the motors will die and it won't make any whirring noise or I can pull the line that causes it to run but so far I haven't felt that need. This is the same for both rigs. On the one; I just have to remember to manually put the antenna down before running through a car wash.

I had problems with my antenna so I just ordered a stubby rubber antenna from the internet for $15 bucks and it works fine. Its also flexible enough not to break when off roading.

Anything special on the install?
