99 shifter light and console removal

How do I remove the interior trim to get to the light under the shifter to change it?

Yes, I have searched the threads and can find most the others but not a 99.

Is it as simple as popping up the cupholder and then the trim to get to it?

Please and thank you everyone. :)

Assuming an Automatic?

Yep, pretty much.
1. Unscrew the 4WD Shift Knob
2. Raise up arm rest
3. Engage E-Brake
4. Cup holders Raise straight up and out

5. The Shifter section pops out next

You guys out west know how to destruct and reconstruct these things! Thanks so much!

Don't understand why you have to remove the shifter knob. All the other things are good. When you pop up the shifter bezel just lift it up and out of the way. The boot will hold it out of the way. The most difficult part is getting the bulb socket twisted out and twisted back in as it goes in the bottom and there's not a lot of room between the socket and the body "hump". Also, I believe the side panel on the center console adds to the obstruction but I think you can get to it without removing it. May need a pair of long needle nose.

It's a bit of a pain.

Do you happen to have some non-slip fabric (like Jar-Gripper)? That's what I used.

Just work at it, side to side, and it will eventually come out.

I got the 74 but it’s too big.
On left is what I pulled out. Right is the 74.
Is left an led? Now what?

I called the dealer and they told me the bulb is a #168. I'll go check it out. it's like $2 so not a big cost there.

correct me but the LEDs ARE interchangeable with the stock bulbs?

oh that is way different than what I was looking at. the one I got from Oreilly is fatter and sits taller in the hookup. Won't go into the slot completely either.

yea, mine is a 4WD. Once I get the dealer one, I'll post it up.

y'all are gonna be sick of me posting newbie stupid stuff but half the time I have no idea what y'all are talking about with the lifts, types of shocks and stuff. big learning curve for me.
so I'm starting small with light bulbs!:nerd:

We all start small!! At least you start somewhere. The LEDs came a long way. When I did mine, I had to take a diamond file to the base and file some of the glass off to make them fit in some of the bases. The one you're dealing with was one of them. I'm sure they fit just fine now, if you get the right one.

My first "mod" was LED lighting and this site helped me 100% through that, so you're in good hand; so to speak

That's not a #74. Looks like a #24. I got mine at first from Advance AP. Just go back and get the next size smaller wedge style bulb. And that other is not an LED. LEDs have at least a resistor and sometimes a zener diode visible in this wedge style bulb. I got these from superbrightleds.com and they actually were somewhat loose in the socket. Put a small dab of epoxy on it. You'll have the same bulb in the key ring and the glovebox.

Got the little bulb at dealer for $3 and got it done.
Yay for small successes.
Now on to the antenna swap.
