99 T4R Front shocks or Struts?

I am shopping for new shocks to improve the ride quality on my 99 t4r.
Maybe i am confused regarding the nomenclature but shocks and struts seem to be used interchangeably in many places but i do not want to replace the springs...just the shocks.

I have the shocks picked out but how can i tell if i currently have shocks or struts on the vehicle? I dont want to buy the shocks thinking i can re-use the springs if i truly need struts.

Maybe you all can clarify for me but i consider shocks and springs as two separate pieces whereas struts come as one piece (shock and spring together)

In addition to what Bump said, you can buy the front strut (coil/shock combo) *already assembled* from different manufacturers.

Lots of people incorrectly refer to the front Coilover shocks, as Struts.
