A/C Compressor/Clutch Rattle Sound at Low RPM

My A/C compressor or clutch is rattling at idle. In park or neutral I hear it occasionally but put it into gear and it is constant at the lower rpm. When I turn the a/c off the noise goes away. I hear it mostly at start-up. I do not hear it after I have been driving for awhile. Thought it was the compressor bearings going bad. Took it to my mechanic and he told me that it is the a/c clutch rattling and it should not hurt anything. Not sure about it though. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated!!! :thanks:

Bump... I'm having the same problem. Turns out its the a/c compressor clutch or ball bearings going bad. What I'm looking for is how to replace it.:thumb3:

Yeah, the noise maker is going to be a bad bearing.
Do a little research to see if Toyota has a rebuild kit/parts, otherwise you're looking at replacing the compressor.
