A/C light flashing??

Question. My A/C wasn't working right, it came out cool instead of cold. I added more refrigerant and now it comes out COLD, but it doesn't work at times, I'm thinking about replacing the relay. Any input?

If your relay fails, you'll get the flashing A/C light and the compressor will shut off (i.e you just get outside or recirculated air depending on your vent settings). If you push the auto button (or the next time you use your A/C), the system may work again, work for only a short while, or not at all.

Last week it gave out again, I pulled over at a gas station, took it out and banged all sides on the concrete. No big deal if I break it I figured,, was going to have to buy another one anyway. Needless to say it started working again,, will see how long it goes this time

Update;
I re-ordered the new, replacement A/C Mag Clutch relay from Partznet, and they indicated the order was filled, and shipped today, should get it tomorrow. $57.06. w/shipping. When it arrives, I get my fog lights back, whoopie........

Yea you have not missed much since the fog lights are pretty useless.
As far as relays go, it was the most that I have ever spent on one.

What we need is a good 'redneck' engineering solution. Some one needs to rig up a solenoid driven impact device to mount next to the relay, controlled by a push button on the dash. A/C stops, hit the 'easy' button a few times, and yer good to go.

The diode jammed down into the relay contacts doesn't qualify as red neck? Maybe if remove the shrink tube and wires and just jam the raw diode in there, I can qualify for the prize! :biggrin2:

Oh wow, hope I'm doin' this right...just joined forum! My A/C quit working too, located the relay with the help of you folks.
The dealer wanted to charge me $60.00 bucks to diagnose the problem because the svc mgr said the relay does lots more than control the A/C.
Using the info you super folks provided, I pulled the relay, than reinserted it and .... lo and behold, it must have had dirty contacts because for 2 months now, no problemo's.

Find yourself a new service center / dealer -- the relay doesn't do ANYTHING more than control the A/C compressor clutch. :bash:
Now save yourself the future repair cost and install the diode while your relay still has life. As is, it's not a question of if it will fail, but when.

Are you removing a spade terminal and inserting the diode between it and the connector? If so, which direction does the anode point to.

Any ground will work. Check the schematic and pictures on the previous page. I didn't hook mine up at IC4 instead opting to insert it directly under the relays in the relay box. I soldered a piece of wire to each side of the diode and then jammed the other end of each wire directly into the relay spade terminals. Once the relays are reinstalled, it's secured.
The diode cathode goes to the load side of the circuit. The anode is connected to ground.
