For $8.21, the fog light relay and the A/C relay in the 2003 model can be found here:

Than Omron has five posts (a middle post on the right side, pin 4). The one out of my vehicle only had four posts. Does that socket in the fuse bank have the fifth slot (presumably unwired)? I can't recall from the 90 seconds I was under the hood.

Every once in a while, the Internet redeems itself from all the nonsense and lowest-common-denominator information. This thread is one of those times. 118k on my '03 and today the blinking A/C light starts. Luckily just past the worst of our summers here in NC, but still hot enough to warrant fixing this (before I need the defogger). Sure enough, the MG CLT relay was the fail point. $28 bucks and a few minutes under the hood and she's running fine.

Hi all! This is my first and only post on these forums and I'd like to say thank you thank you thank you for this thread! I signed up for these forums JUST because of this thread. I don't even have a 4 runner, I have a 2002 Toyota Camry, and this exact problem happened with my car. I really can't believe that Toyota hasn't recalled this little relay considering the ridiculous amount of people that seem to have the same issue.

After some consideration and reading I decided my options were either 1) assume the relay is the problem and spend about $70 for that stupid little thing, or 2) bang the relay on the sidewalk and see if that would fix it. #2 won out! I smacked that little thing on the sidewalk and put it back in and sure enough my air condition is back! I seriously couldn't believe it. My Air Conditioner had been going in and out for over a year, and a couple months ago when I took the advice of this thread it just worked! My Air Conditioner only went out once since then and I did the same fix and sure enough it worked again. Knock on wood it'll keep working for awhile longer and hopefully for another few years until I get a new car. Either way, I'm thrilled that I managed to fix such a significant thing with such a ridiculous fix.

My 03 Runner with 90,000 miles just started this ac blinking tonight. I was curious if this relay is a direct replacement?? I seems to have one extra "tab" sticking out of the bottom.

Thanks to yabedud for the relay info. I ordered two from Digi-Key and got them in two days. I did have to cut the middle "tab" off to make it fit but they work fine. Cant beat the price!!

4-runner relay problem

I am a new member here and have the blinking AC light on my 03 4-runner sport. My problem is I am not sure what relay it is to replace, on my cover there is not a relay that says AC or anything like that, I have swapped all of the relays around with the fog light relay and still the light is blinking. Can anyone tell me if the AC relay is in the box under the hood where I am looking or is it somewhere else. Thanks for the help and I am sure I will be back asking other questions...

If you need a relay save yourself some money and order a couple of these, RELAY AUTO SPDT MICRO ISO 12VDC - G8H-1C4T-R-DC12

You need to remove the extra middle pin, but they work fine and our very cheap!

Just want to thank drmorbius and jstutz101 for the quick help, I thought I checked all of the relays but obviously after "rechecking" the one that is the AC relay it now works, I appreciate the help and quick responses, I am sure I will be using this site for other things also. Great site!

I kinda wish I would have tried the "Smack the 2022 part on the concrete" before replacing...But this was a pretty easy fix.

Blinking a/c light//no cooling

Recently joined this forum after reading about the sudden blinking a/c light and lack of cooling.

I did the recommendations to find the control relay (thanks to the member who posted a diagram of the control/fuse box next to the vehicle's battery). I used a wrench to pull out the relay, tapped it a few times on the garage floor and re installed. All is now working perfectly, cooling good, etc. If I have other problems, will replace with the recommended relay. I have the original.

Rando's and Techwrench's 2007 posts continue to be much appreciated

My 2003 4runner developed AC problems at 70k miles around 2008. That problem was diagnosed as a sensor built on the compressor (diagnosed by whom I believe to be a very knowledgeable and reputable local auto AC guy). Back then the AC light blinked immediately, always blinked once the problem started, and the AC stopped blowing cool air. Unfortunately, the 2003 model compressor did not allow changing the sensor and, therefore, I spent about $900 changing the compressor. The AC worked fine until intermittent operation began about when I turned 100k miles. I searched T4R's threads, but missed Rando's top-notch analysis of the relay problem. I recently went over 113k miles, found the thread, and recently swapped the fog light relay with the old AC clutch relay. This has worked like a charm for the past week and I soon will add the diode that Rando suggested and possibly use the Digi-Key relay (here is the link) that someone provided. I have been fighting power door lock actuator problems and the AC problem was pushing me over the edge. This might allow me to keep this vehicle for 150k to 200k miles. Rando also indicated that complete repair manuals and electrical diagrams were available on Ebay and I have secured complete html-based manuals and electrical diagrams for very little cash. I appreciate everyone's contribution to this forum and especially this thread.

Hopefully A/C Problem solved

I jumped in my 4runner today and figured she got jealous I spent half the day washing and maintaining the other family vehicle, and just to spite me, the A/C start flashing and no cold air. Great. I've had few issues with my 4runner to date, only having to replace some brake calipers (thanks to winter/salt in the U.P.), a battery and new tires at 70k. truck has been paid off, so figured it's about time i had to put something into it. figured i check the forum to see if others had same issue and what they found. very relieved to hear it might only be the relay. I'll give the hammer a try in the morning and see if that helps, or swap relays with fog lights to verify it's the relay. If not, I'll be back for help. Either way, I figure the forum just saved me a trip to the dealer, and warranty is up. Thanks guys. btw, mine has around 92k miles. odd how they are reaching end of life after 7 years on a lot of vehicles.

love tap did it this go round. i definitely have the older relay. looks like i probably need to get one coming for when this one finally dies. I heard some talk of the service bulletin, but then heard a lot of people have to pay out of pocket. is the service bulletin only good if the vehicle is still under warranty?

Yep. Ironically, I found the service bulletin and it said that it was 3 years or 36,000 miles. As mine is an 03, I was screwed. I found a replacement part by Omron on eBay for $15 and am giving that a shot.

SO GLAD i FOUND THIS THREAD!!! I PUT IN THE NEW RELAY, IT COST $74 AT THE DEALER. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!! I HAVE AN 03 4RUNNER WITH 81,000 MILES ON IT. THE 4RUNNER IS AN AWESOME TRUCK, THIS WAS THE WORST WINTER IN NEW JERSEY IN YEARS AND THIS TRUCK WENT RIGHT THROUGH 3 FEET OF SNOW WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT. THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!
