A/C only blows cold air on "LO" setting

There's something wrong with his AC system. Don't know what's causing it to do that, but I do know as long as the AC button is turned "ON", it should blow cold air, especially when you set the temp at 66 or so, which is way lower than the ambient temp and cabin temp.

Or did you not push the "AC" button on?

Odinwiski, you are right. It should be blowing cold air when it's set to 66 degrees. The AC button is on and illuminated but still blows warm/borderline hot air. I didnt want to bring it in to Toyota for service but I guess it's my last option. Just don't have time to tinker with it.


Anyone else having the same problem with your A/C's?

AC button is definitely on with mine as well and have the same problem.

I went to turn my AC on last week and got no cold air......at all. No matter what temperature I set it at, only warm air. I drive it later that day and it worked great, nice cold air. Then it stopped again. Not sure we are having the same problem, but I keep you posted anyway. I figure any input would be helpful. I am under warranty and have an appt. with stealership next week.

Quick thing to verify, is does your compressor actually cycle on and off? Turn the A/C on full blast, Max cold and check the engine bay for a clicking noise as the compressor engages and disengages.

I just went through this after installing a brand new head unit. As it turns out the interior temp sensor for the a/c unit was unplugged. It is located by your right knee on the drivers side. If you look at the plastic plate under the steering wheel you will see an area that has slits in the plastic. The sensor is right behind that piece of plastic. Simply plug in the sensor or if it has gone bad it may need to be replaced. That is my experience and i had the same exact situation occur.

I just checked mine and I don't have any wires or harness connected to the temp sensor nor do I see a connector that would go there. My guess is that when I had my Viper remote start installed in January that they disconnected and spliced these wires. Had a similar issue in the winter with the heat pumping blazing hot air but did not put two and two together until now. Thanks.

i just checked mine and i don't have any wires or harness connected to the temp sensor nor do i see a connector that would go there. My guess is that when i had my viper remote start installed in january that they disconnected and spliced these wires. This problem started as soon as I left the car audio store after installing a dvd double din unit. I looked at the where you described the "slits" in the plastic and sure enough, there was my problem. There is the sensor there, which was unplugged and also there is a hose attached to it that was also unplugged. Plugged them both back in and now Im in tip top shape again! Saved an AXX load of money fixing it myself. The dealer wouldve charged me to replace the part plus labor.

Great info in this! I just bought one and have the same issue. I have not had time to look at it yet, but pretty sure this will help.

I have no clue why people would think going from "LO" setting to 65 and getting heat would be normal or even the way the A/c is suppose to work though.

I have seeing same issue as you described when temperature sensor inside of the truck (on lower part of the dash) is unplugged, has bad connection or not functional..
I would check that first.

lol yes but that's what forums are for i've had this issue since the stereo shop installed my CarPlay HU (2 mo) and its been bother me. eace:

Same thing happened here. Anything above LO and the system was blowing hot air. I pulled the panel under the steering column ( two screws) and sure enough the sensor and tube were disconnected. I re-connected, buttoned the panel up and the climate control worked as it should.

I had the same problem, AC blowing hot on any temperature setting other than Lo. Interior temp sensor was not completely plugged in. Easy fix! I had been fixing something under the dash a few weeks ago and must have slightly disconnected it. It looked like it was plugged in, but it wasn’t “clicked” in.

Add me to the list of people who got cold air on lo and hot air on 65°. It’s 82° and sunny here today, so my interior was definitely hotter than 65°.

My cabin temp sensor was also disconnected and not attached to the lower dash panel. (I had my lower dash apart when I installed my 1” body lift recently.) It was a simple and free 5-minute fix. Gotta love this forum!
