A/C problem

The 4Runner somehow lost its A/C this past weekend on a 500km road trip. No cold air from vents.

Checked that hole on the receiver, no bubbles once A/C is operating. Only bubbling on A/C start and A/C shutting down. One of the lines leading to A/C compressor becomes hot to touch when A/C is turned on, another line is normal temperature.

Any ideas?

Have you tried recharging your ac? It could be low of refrigerant which means it needs to be recharged. Sounds like that's your problem

i just had mine checked last week and was told that the ac system is a sealed system?.. and that it cant be low on refrig and that i have a leak somewhere.. anyone have any info on this or a DIY write-up in on how to recharge?

Does it start off cold and then gradually go to just vent air? If so then its your expansion valve, about 34 bucks but you have to remove the dash to replace it, I just did mine in my 97

Brought my runner to a shop and they charged up the freon, and the A/C is working now. Hope it will last.

how long did it take to do the expansion valve my is full of r134 and the window is clear like it should be but it will blow super cold then will blow cool then back to super cold and so on. I think i will need to do this and how much r134 did you need to refil the system

Does anyone know how much R134 is needed, I'm blowing no cold air and am standing in the aisle at walmart trying to pick how much too get.

Cool, The compresser wasnt spinning or something, but my dad got it working good again (idk how), charged the system up and its cold, although this is after the almost 100*F extended weekend that my sister had my truck and did 400 miles in, yeah she wasn't too happy about the no A/C, me i couldnt care less, i have 6 windows. Gracias for the help.

Mine has a small leak somewhere....mechanic charged it up and put dye in it but couldn't find any leak at the time. Yesterday (the first 100° day of summer, of course) it started blowing warmer again. So it's back at the shop now to hopefully find the culprit. It worked great for a month or so this time until the leak caught up with it.

If the system runs low and loses pressure the car automatically disengages the clutch on the compressor. I have been up close with the ac system unfortunately over the past 3 weeks.
