With regards to the Japanese Headlights on the silver......I think they don't always have that blue tint to them, maybe? If it wasn't for that, I think it would look better. It's a more aggresive and tough look.
 
I like the lights with the black in them. Btw, a little OT, but in your statement, "what does everyone think of the jap headlights on silver? ;)" 'jap' is a derogatory term for Japanese. I am not offended, but other Japanese people might be. Just FYI.
I know you meant to just shorten 'Japanese.'

24runners, I read in another thread that you were going to paint your running boards silver. Did you do it yet? Please post a pic when done. I finally got my silver last week...looks awesome! I was going to buy the limited boards, but $1,000+ seems a bit much. thanks!

Just a random idea of mine, but what do you guys think about covering the black with metal......say brushed aluminum or something. The ends might be difficult, but I think it would look good with just the center straight portion. As I said, it's just a random crackpot idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case one of you liked it. I already have silver, so I probably won't ever go this route. Unless, it looks absolutely sick and I can't resist!

I am supposed to be painting my boards within the next day or two (rain and cold have stopped me the past few days)

Prime and paint should be fairly straight forward...my brother sprayed his own grille and center caps on his subaru...and even touched up the bumper of my grandmother's Lexus 430i...results are great...you can NOT tell it was done with just matching spray paint ;)

I have some Dupli-color Toyota Metallic Silver from Advanced Auto...matches perfect :)

I will post pics of my boards after they are painted.

Btw, without the running boards on the 4runner...it looks REALLY high with those 20's *haha*

Bummer, you already have the paint. I had this idea a couple weeks ago, but haven't had much time for the board lately, and lack of computer access. I hope there is someone else as mod addicted as you that will try it out. Good luck with the painting......or maybe my crazy idea! Later.
 
painted them tonight :)

used "self-etching" primer (has some kind of acid like effect that helps it stick)...then sprayed the dupli-color...turned out great :) I will post pics tomorrow when it is daylight *hehe*

It takes a steady and even motion to make spray paint work good and we did a great job...there was only one spot where we had a little run spot...but after it dried...we sanded that and resprayed right there...turned out fine!

That looks really good. Nice work! So about how much did it cost you to do that? Just curious b/c i just went and bought some limited ones of someone that didnt want them. you cant even tell a difference. I like the look w/o the boards. I kept mine off for a while but i missed using them and my girlfriend bitched about not being able to step up with them... so you guessed it i put them back on. Once again looks tight and the wheels look even better. Congrats
 
haha...yeah...girlfriends do come first *haha*

cost about $6 for two cans of the spray paint (only used one tho)

a dollar or two for the tape and some paper towels to prevent overspray

thats it :)

when the weather is better i'll clean the whole thing and take a close detailed pic for ya

I'd still actually consider buying Limited boards from someone so I can get the lights ;) but who knows..i might just add lights to the ones I have *haha*
 
Nice work on the boards. It's a huge improvement imo.......especially on a titanium 4runner w/ silver racks. BTW, I like having the lights on my limited, but it is sorta an ugly yellowish glow...........which would be the advantage of adding your own.....you could improve on that. I guess I could change my bulbs, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
 
Nice job... looks really good. But do you think that spray paint will hold up to the abuse (sand/rocks etc) coming off the front tires?

Are the OEM Limited running boards painted? If so, does anyone know how it was done? Is it more of a powder coating?
 
Dont hold me to it but im pretty sure the boards are painted b/c i have a chip in mine from a rock i guess and its black underneath. So i assume they would be painted. Not sure.

We'll see ;) My bro used the same paint on his grille and its been fine. Plus, If I get any chips...its just a quick spray from patchin *LOL*

Seriously though, it really looks good...not like you'd think when you hear "spray paint". I guess because the paint is specifically for auto use...not just your average canned spray paint.
