A few questions tires.

Good Morning to all. I bought my 4runner last october after more than a year of searching for a clean low mileage one with out the $20,000 price tag. I Like the truck alot, my son likes it even more. Well aways I lifted the truck last month with the Daystar KT09115BK 2.5 in front 1.5 rear. Now I looking at tire since Im heading out west in a few weeks to snowboard so I figure I'll drive the truck instead of flying.

Question #1 Im looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler AT and Toyo Open Country AT who has or had these tires and what are your thoughts as far as on and off road performance?

Question#2 Im planning on going to a 285/70/17 Has anyone experienced tire rub without spacers installed. Of course I know you have to trim the fender liner.

I dont due a lot of aggressive off roading. I cruise the beaches of OBX and 7 or 8 times a year I go up to the mountains to go camping, and 4wheel drive is a big requirement as there a few creeks to cross and many other obstacles but I usaully park the truck and drive the 4 wheelers to camp site. Its much more fun with 4 wheelers. Thanks guys for the help

You may have a little with that size tire but wont be much...I know when I put my BFG AT KO before the Spidertax they didn't rub at all.

Those two tires are pretty similar, but my personal preference is for the Nittos.

You will need spacers if you go with that size. Also, I've heard that your MPG will go down (which may affect your decision because of the many miles to get West). I believe that both those cos. make stock tire sizes that are perfectly suited to off-road.

Thanks for the feedback and help. Im going to run down to my tires supplier warehouse today and there going to give me a little show and tell. The Toyo factory rep told me last week they have a 500 mile satisfaction guarantee. But I what to look at the tread on all of them first. I'll let ya'll know what I end up with.

I recently installed Nitto Terra Graps LT285-60-18, should be similar in size to the 17", there may be some suspension rub with stock wheels and no spacers. The shop had to shave both my body mounts and my bumper. Also note i went with a wider rim set... see my sig

Review of the NTGs: Great tire in the snow, unstoppable, Sweet aggressive look, no road noise, a little tiny bit of a stiffer ride compared to the pansy radials the limited came with but im ok with that.

All right so this is what I ended up doing.. I when to my tire distributors warehouse at lunch time today. He laid out all 12 of the tires he had in stock in 285/70/17. So I looked at coopers,yokos,nittos,toyos,mastercrafts,michelins,bfgs,and cordovan. So what I ended up doing was I feel in love with the cooper discovery stt so I bought 5 of them, and being I dont want to deal with the noise all the time I bought 5 toyo open country ats as well. So I mounted and balanced the stt's tonight so I can go ahead and do the necessary trimming being there the bigger of the 2 sets. When I went to but the sst's on the front I hits the UCA so I had to send one of my guys out to get me a spacer. So I installed a 1/4 inch spacer in the front and thats just enough clearance ( I do not recommend spacer a permanent solutution. They tend to cause lugs nut to vibrate loose.) to clear the UCA. So I got 2 pair of wheel adapters overnighted so tomorrow I going install them do an alignment and remove the wheel well and trim it. So now I have to find 5 wheels for my toyos. I figure I will use the toyos for around town and trips, and the stt's for when I go to the beaches and mountains.

My Thoughts of the Stt's so far(i've only but may be 20 miles on them). They are a awesome looking tire very aggressive. Stiff sidewall so the ride is a bit stiffer. They Are a little noisey turn radio volume to 10-12 and it drowns it out. They do not like grove in the on the highway tend to follow the grove (auto steer). I heading to the mountains this weekend for some target practice. I have 400 acres up there cut out for the 4 wheelers and my old willys. So I'll be getting back to you off road performance late sunday or monday.

O and by the way if anyone local here is interested in buy tires My distributor sells tire at awesome prices and the volume I buy the cheaper they get. So anyone looking for some I sell them for cost (no I not interested in shipping). For instance the Stt's cost me $190 each and the toyo's cost $117 each.
