A light-weight wooden sleeping platform...info needed.

I am thinking about making a raised platform to sleep on. I will probably also install drawers underneath that run on metal rails. I would like to keep the weight down, while still keeping it strong enough to support the weight of two people. I really don't know that much about the different types of wood. All I see is what I see at Home Depot.

Any recommendations on what type of wood to use or where to go to buy some? I assume carpenters do not shop at Home Depot since they probably do not generally use plywood. Also, What thickness should I use for the top platform and the legs?

I built a wooden plateform bed in an old dodge pick up bed with a camper shell on top i used regurlar plywood 1/2" thk, used 1x2's to make up the frame work underneath. I can't say this would be the lightest assembly but it worked for the fishing trips to random lakes we went on. i created a series of rectangles with the 1x2's and placed a rectangular frame under the plywood every 16inches then used 2x4's to latter all the frames together running the lenght of the bed. Lowes and home depot do sell oak ply wood and cedar boards not sure how big they go but theres a good bit of choices of plywood types at lowes and home depot that should work for you
