A New version of "Entune" is available!

I updated my 2015 4runner limited using the bluetooth connection through my nexus5 which was connected to wifi as I still had signal strength on my driveway from my router.

My nexus 5 is running experimental software (I work for Google) and also has the latest entune android app on the phone.

All I did was follow the on screen prompts. I had my 4runner in the "ON" state without the engine running. Which is 2 presses of the engine start button without depressing the brake pedal.

It took maybe 3 mins for the download... and maybe 2 mins for the install. I didn't time it exactly.

One thing I did notice after the entune update is now it appears I can't scroll past page 1 for POI searches (like gas stations and restaurants) while the 4runner is in gear. I remember I used to be able to scroll and enter in addresses to my hearts content. Now it is almost as bad as Nissan navigation systems. They completely lock you out from using the interface while the vehicle is moving.

I think I had version 5.0 on my headunit prior to going to 5.1.

the person i am related to by marraige, again, while driving the Rnnr installed a nice problem...again. (ask me about the cracked windshield, i dare ya)

As she says it, she 'just noticed it on Wed'...whatever...entune wont hold/save my radio station presets anymore. you can enter them, but as soon as you turn off the truck, and turn it back on, they are completely deleted-the entire list.

Has anyone experienced this, and will this update help fix that problem???

1) Late 2015 Trail Edition
2) Freshly formatted 8GB USB stick, swdl.iso only file sitting on it.
3) Plugged it into the USB port under ventilation controls
4) USB stick flashes that its being read
5) Setup updates shows NO prior updates
6) Update does nothing. Entune just sits there. No update messages or anything. Appears nothing is happening.
7) Ridiculous

Am I correct in understanding the swdl.iso file is all that should be required on the memory stick?

Your truck is too new for this update. It's for 2011-2013.
Dealership has to perform the update (from what I was told) for 2014+.
You CAN do the Apps updates over your phone/wifi.
I'm taking mine in in the next week or so and will report back.

I dropped off both 2014 Limited T4R's for scheduled maintenance (one has 15K, one has 20K), and the dealer confirmed there is no Entune firmware update and that both have the latest and greatest entune firmware. Needless to say BOTH are getting brand new complete entune/nav units from the factory covered under warranty for the constant reboot reboot reboot reboot reboot problem. Hopefully this resolves the issue. Units will be in in a week. Stay tuned.

I bought a 2014 Trail Premium about 6 weeks ago. Entune crashed and froze like crazy. I took it in to the dealership and they updated the firmware and I haven't had a single problem since. Been about 4 weeks now. Not sure what the update number is.

Which 4R do you drive, and which update did you load, 5.0 via flashdrive or the wi-fi download; which I believe is just the apps update e.g., Pandora, Heart Radio...etc.

IOS 9.2 beta 2 was just released and it mentions a fix for usb car connectivity issues.

I drive a 2013 Limited, I updated to 5.0 via a flashdrive with the download from Toyota. It took 5 minutes. Like I said before, Entune is a great idea it's support for the app and the vehicle mounted systems is lacking which causes it's horrible execution.

Before giving up on the whole idea that the update could eradicate certain problems that have plagued most of our Entune systems, try this... The next time you pull in the driveway 'for the night', pull the Green Amp 30A fuse and leave it out 'til the next day; or a minimum of 4hrs! After you reinstall the fuse you should notice that the radio pre-sets have defaulted to random stations.

Now attempt the update using your flashdrive! The reason for removing the fuse and leaving it out is to clear the processor/hard-drive cache which stores certain user settings. There may be files there that may have become damaged/corrupted (through normal usage) and prohibiting an update to take place in that state. Like restarting your phone or computer, it is a good idea to restart these devices regularly!

PS: You can still drive the vehicle with the fuse pulled, you just won't have use of the sound system.

It's not that the system did't update properly or that my system hasn't been restarted. It's the point that it's execution IMHO is flawed, I believe that Toyota may have rushed it out too early.

I have used it a few times but honestly I find the apps on my phone to work better with more refinement.

Thanks for the info on the fuse pull though, I might do that to the wife's Avalon.

Not all Entune Headunits use the same software... Meaning that 5.1.0 is for "Harmen Becker" units that have extension boxes. Fujistu-Ten and Panasonic units use different software.

For example, the reason it's not working for [MENTION=64999]mdrudy[/MENTION] most likely is because his unit is a Panasonic unit judging by the software version, I believe the most up to date version is one of these: 01018A, 01012E, 010197, 01012A, 0101D1, 01014E at this point in time. Software versions for Fujistu-Ten units tend to have a AU, BU, or DU prefix (Fujistu-Ten units aren't used in 4Runners last I checked but just showing the differences here), i.e. BU.70.27

Wish the download website they linked were a bit better fleshed out for you guys. I don't get paid much of anything from warranty for updating headunit software, but it's about 3/4 of the radio issues we see get fixed by updating the OS; to be honest I really think the Customer/End User should be able to update their own headunit software as the phone technology quickly outpaces the headunit software and there's no realistic way for dealerships/Toyota to keep up.

Personally they should let you either do it via piggy-backing your Cell's USB connection (i.e. "Please Connect to WiFi to download software update, then connect phone to unit via USB") or at the very least download the software for your unit off a website to put on a USB Drive. It'll be nicer when the vehicle actually have internet and can do it via that instead of this middle-man junk.

LOL I kinda looks cool, kinda :wacko: It sure sounds better on paper than what it actually does, sadly. I didn't expect too much from it but the 3 year old $200 JVC double din I traded in with my 3rd gen was literally ten times better.

If you have a 2014+ you can change the startup image to whatever you want. Sweet! Ah crap I have a 2013 hwell:

Nav stinks, google maps are better and list current traffic.

You have to pay the dealer $100+ for map updates LOL WTF

Apps are lame, nothing really useful or that doesn't require you to have an internet connection (sure understandable)

Since you have to use your own internet connection for these wonderful (cr)apps why can't you mirror your phones apps? Dock two more stars.

Voice recognition is infuriating, it makes Siri look ace.

Preset system is f'kn stupid, it does not distinguish when you switch to FM/AM/Sat it just stays where it is. iWhen I first bought the truck it originally changed to match the source. When I would switch to FM it would show the FM presets, or Sat it would show the Sat presets, now it doesn't do shit.

I wanted too like it, I really did, it is pretty much a complete fail IMO Oh and it does sound "ok" for a complete system, not great but ok.

The nice thing is, I keep hoping, that they could fix it or that someone smarter than me just decides to root the unit and really fix it.

Much of the problem also has to do with litigation. It's mainly why the Apple & Android headunits are not basically mirrors of your phones, because it'd be too distracting and then the companies would be opening themselves up to potential litigation.

Not to mention the technology is severely hampered by a very closed off/proprietary nature and poor integration. Even GM's new internet enabled headunits fail to be as connected as they should be in terms of base OS and Software functionality. I really would like to see an in-car internet set-up that allows the headunits to be regularly updated and changed like a home PC or Tablet; that would push the capabilities of the headunits forward drastically.
