I don't really mean to Rant out in this thread, sorry for that. This is really the only thing that really bugs me about the truck. They could fix it, I keeping hoping...

You are probably correct, about the litigation. Maybe, don't know.

Fact is you already have a nag screen disclaimer when you use the Nav. You have a nag screen disclaimer when you use the internet connect. You have a nag screen disclaimer for this that and the other thing.

It is obvious you shouldn't be able to mirror video/txt/et all, but mirroring Nav, mirroring music apps, mirroring any other less/non-visual app is exactly what the system currently does. My JVC hu would not play video when the vehicle was moving (when installed as per the instructions).

It could be a nice system, I just don't think they are all on board with it. I beta test a few really high-end pieces of VFX software, I really wonder if this stuff has any wide reaching Q&A. It just seems all this software based stuff is really new to the old curmudgeons that make the decisions at car companies. They behave as if they are stuck in the 80's IMO.

LOL I kinda looks cool, kinda :wacko: It sure sounds better on paper than what it actually does, sadly. I didn't expect too much from it but the 3 year old $200 JVC double din I traded in with my 3rd gen was literally ten times better.

If you have a 2014+ you can change the startup image to whatever you want. Sweet! Ah crap I have a 2013 hwell:

Nav stinks, google maps are better and list current traffic.

You have to pay the dealer $100+ for map updates LOL WTF

Apps are lame, nothing really useful or that doesn't require you to have an internet connection (sure understandable)

Since you have to use your own internet connection for these wonderful (cr)apps why can't you mirror your phones apps? Dock two more stars.

Voice recognition is infuriating, it makes Siri look ace.

Preset system is f'kn stupid, it does not distinguish when you switch to FM/AM/Sat it just stays where it is. iWhen I first bought the truck it originally changed to match the source. When I would switch to FM it would show the FM presets, or Sat it would show the Sat presets, now it doesn't do shit.

It is expensive

I wanted too like it, I really did, it is pretty much a complete fail IMO Oh and it does sound "ok" for a complete system, not great but ok.

The nice thing is, I keep hoping, that they could fix it or that someone smarter than me just decides to root the unit and really fix it.

Thanks for this recap. I thought I missed something and wasn't utilizing it to the max. But this confirmed my suspicion that it's not fully developed yet. Hopefully they update even more in the future.

I dropped off both 2014 Limited T4R's for scheduled maintenance (one has 15K, one has 20K), and the dealer confirmed there is no Entune firmware update and that both have the latest and greatest entune firmware. Needless to say BOTH are getting brand new complete entune/nav units from the factory covered under warranty for the constant reboot reboot reboot reboot reboot problem. Hopefully this resolves the issue. Units will be in in a week. Stay tuned.

I promised I would update. So it's been a month and 1000 miles later since my entune systems were replaced and I have not had a single reboot in either 4Runner.

Went in for my 15k checkup yesterday. I have been having problems with my Entune rebooting several times a week. They were able to duplicate and I have a new headset coming in. I asked about updated maps and he they do via the usb for about $40. Hope he's right but we shall see.

2012 limited - entunes v2 - can I update?

Hi, newbie here. I just bought a 2012 limited 4runner certified from a dealer and it has entunes v2. Can I update to version 3 or higher? Version 2 is fine, but I'd love to get some different apps and map update, etc. Plus all of the red color on the dash drives me a bit nuts. I asked the dealer about an update on entunes and they said it would be emailed to me when it's available for my truck. I don't think that's going to happen... My question is: Is it worth it to download the latest version and upload it via USB? Can even do it or am I stuck with version 2 that probably was original to the vehicle when I bought it?

Latest version of what? :shocked: It depends on your year and model too.

For a Entune with Nav for a 2013 yes, the head unit software is 5.1.

I have the same model
I had the dealer update mine to 5.1 the last time I took it in. From what I have read on this site, you can download the latest version and update it via the sub port. Use the search feature for updating Entune.

Make sure to have your head unit software updated as well. The Entune update and the software update are actually two different updates. The dealer will usually do the software update for free.

I have a 15 Limited and thought I saw something about Siri Eyes Free being included when I bought it, but now I can't see anything anywhere... except for all 2016 models of Toyota.

Anyway since that update and or card replacement the system has not froze to date. Looks like the finally figured it out. Now if we can just get a map update and not 4 to 5 years old map data i would be all set.

Hi Doug,

You can get the map updated but it'll have to be through the dealership. The disc/micro-SD is available on this forum from 'J.A. Top 4Runners' if you're interested in having it but I think the dealer needs to load it to your nav unit. Mine has been re-booting almost ever other day and sometimes 2-3 times at once. Took it in for my 15k about 3 weeks ago and they were able to duplicate and replaced with a brand new unit. Was good for a day and now it's doing the same thing. Seems to happen after the latest update happens.

Told by parts department no map update is available until January. Haven't ask again yet this month.

No , I don't think so . The 2016 and up with Siri eyes is entune 2.5

s/w v 5.1 annoyance

Updated the s/w in my 2012 TE (bought used August 2015), from 1.7.2 iirc to the latest v 5.1.

Now the system always connects via bluetooth to my old cell phone's built in music player that does not have any music ... old s/w version I disconnected that music player and it STAYED disconnected. Now I have to disconnected it every time I start the car... normally I don't care, just an annoyance that I have to do this if I don't want it showing up.

I tried deleting the BT pair & re-pairing, but I always get the music player (which I don't want) as well as the phone.

Well, at least BING is gone from the menu.
