I just got a call from Toyota Customer Care and they have agreed to pay for a new control module that was bricked by the 5.2.0 update. It took a LOT of back and forth with them, but I was *finally* able to get them to actually, you know, look at their own darn website (securedp.toyota.com) and see what I saw. This led them to *finally* and miraculously locate the correct TSB that said, sure enough, 5.2.0 is the correct latest version of software for my particular stereo, so there was nothing wrong done on my part despite them insisting repeatedly that was the case. They also admitted at the end of the call that there have been other reported problems with the 5.2.0 software available for download at that site, so be careful if you're thinking about using it to update your own stereo.

I just bought a 2013 Trail and haven't done much with Entune. A couple of questions:
1. Since 5.2 may have issues, is there 5.1 available somewhere?
2. I currently have 1.8.4. The app is 1.16.403.43, the last version that works on my phone (Samsung Captivate Glide). If the app is needed, can the existing app version be used if I upgrade the firmware to 5.1? it appears that the app is only needed if I want to do things on my phone through it. I don't need any it's functionality. I just want to connect to the Internet, which I can do by Bluetooth alone.

Everyone has issues with eTune. Overall it sucks when comparing it to most other options out there.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't update to the latest phone app or firmware. Running out dated software is never the smartest idea. You don't know what security issues may hiding in the old versions.
Couple things:
1. In the PC world I ALWAYS disable Windows Update. I am careful about what I download or click on in emails. I do not run AV programs. I run a PC for work/personal use and another for online activity, safely connected on the network. I've only been infected once and that was trivial, in over 20 years of PC use. So, i am a firm believer in leaving things alone as long as they work. I'm running Win7 and have no use for the "latest and greatest".
2. As for not upgrading to the latest Enture, well, two posts up you'll see Bat Country's exdperience with doing this with version 5.2. Why would I risk doing the same?! Plus, as I noted, the app past the version I have is NOT supported on my phone. Surely you're not advising I upgrade my phone too?

Both of my entune radios have been updated with no issue. Just because someone reported an issue doesn't mean anything. Everyone has issues with something at some point and nothing will work forever.
I really hope you are not giving cyber security advice to your friends.
I looked up your phone model and yes you should upgrade it. The phone is out dated, out of support and runs a end of life / end of support operating system. You will continue to loose functionality Google/Samsung is no longer producing security patches for it.

Just downloaded and updated the update yesterday. The only difference Ive noticed is that when im playin music from my music and arrive at my destination. If I dont shutdown the app that is playing music, when I restart the 4r it will , after a while will start to play music
What did you download and install?
Do you get this behavior in your version: say I'm playing AM radio, on a selected saved channel and I switch to FM. The AM channel still plays and no FM channel is highlighted/selected. When I click the up/down arrow, it doesn't switch to an FM channel but stays on the AM screen.

I've read a lot of out dated threads related to disabling the auto music playback when using the USB wire but I didn't find anything definitive.
Did they ever include the option to disable this so that an iPhone could be plugged in and not have the music play automatically?

Playlists on USB?
Has anybody been able to get playlists on a USB drive to work? I've hitting my head against the wall trying to get this function to work. :ybrick:

I really hope there is a fix for this. It is SO ANNOYING.
Playlists work for me. I generate them from JRiver Media Center and they look llike this:
filename: playlist.m3u
contents:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:192,animals - we've gotta get out of this pl
_1960's\animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3
In the above example, the folder is: _1960's
The track filename is: animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3
I then use a text editor to change the contents to this format:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:192,animals - we've gotta get out of this pl
.\_1960's\animals - we've gotta get out of this place.mp3
That's it. Place them in the top level folder. For example, make a top level fodler called MP3 and then "_1960's" is below that. Place the playlist in MP3 folder.

I've been running this Entune O/S update going on two years now with ZERO audio, GPS, or cell phone connectivity issues (Knock-on-wood)! Any questions that you may have regarding it's functionality or problematic symptoms were likely covered here by several forum members who were having trouble with their HU's loading this new software; I think the 2014 & 2015 4Runners 'NON-JBL' headunits aren't compatible with update 5.1. I think the dealership had to do the update for some of our members here as a result! Go ahead and thumb through the pages of this thread and it should help direct you to exactly what you're having questions with. 'Best to you',

I have a 2014 TEP with 53k miles and was experiencing the constant reboots. In fact mine was stuck in a reboot loop that continued for hours until I was able to leave the car off for about an hour. Anyway, I took it to Scott Clark Toyota in Charlotte (off HWY 74), mentioned the TSB (which states an update is covered under warranty only).
They update the software for me to the latest version of Entune free of charge. Great service and they've earned my business moving forward!

That link that I posted is two years old, and the link where I got update 5.1; seems that it's been changed to ver. 5.2 now, BUT it says:>>> https://securedp.toyota.com/static/toyota/pdf/SoftwareDownloadPortalQuickStartGuide.pdf <<< I just added this link (5.2 has been repaired): More INFO
"Also updates your multimedia system with the latest improvements to version 5.2.0. If your software version is lower than this number, this update is applicable."
You should be able to click on that link and substitute/use it as you would 5.1!

Thanks for the reply. I just set up what you described and still no-go. My 2017 has Entune Premium Audio. On this, according to the dealer, I should see a PLAYLIST tab at the top of the screen, along with ALBUM ARTIST GENRE, etc. I've tried 3 different USB devices and none of them do that. I'll be going back to the dealer Thursday.
What method do you use to select the playlist on your vehicle? What version of Entune do you have?
Looking this over one more time, my music folders are in the root of the drive. I'll try making a MP3 folder and moving it all to that and see if there's a change.

I recently bought a 2015 SR5 Premium (with Navigation) and have installed the Entune app on my iPhone. Also, I just downloaded a software update from the Toyota website, but haven't installed it yet.
My issue is this: My current weather and 3-day forecast are not right. It says they've updated within the past 5 minutes. However, it always says the temperature is 75 degrees. If it's during daytime hours, it will display a sun, and when it's evening/night, it displays a moon. But it always says is 75 degrees. Also, the three day forecast is always for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, regardless of the actual day of the week.
Yesterday, we had some rain, so I looked at the weather map and it was accurate.
