A question for the remote start experts

I am going to put a remote starter in my 2015 TE. Does the bypass feature that is provided by aftermarket units disable the factory alarm function since the computer senses there is a key in the vehicle even if the doors are locked? Any other possible things I should be aware of when using an aftermarket unit? The local car starter dealer with the best reputation uses only DEI equipment and stands behind it and his installs excellently. He has done 2 previous units for our cars and I have nothing but good words for him. My choice is the Viper 2 way remote starter with no other features on the fob.

Which bypass are you planning on using?

I can tell you that the Ads blade-al that my compustar alarm/RS uses works with the factory alarm by controlling it and also by being controlled by the factory alarm. The compustar fobs control not only the compustar system but also the factory alarm. The factory fobs control not only the factory alarm but also the compustar system. The bypass basically electronically mimics a key in the ignition to the factory ECM and alarm during remote start. Not all bypasses are created equal though.

I have a much older DEI remote start/bypass in my 08 4runner that is not that fancy. The two systems (DEI, factory) are totally separate. One can't control the other but the bypass works just as good.

Thanks, I was hoping you would reply. I do not know which bypass he is using but will trust him as he has done several 14 4R's in this area. I know DEI is not your favorite, but my guy sets very high standards in service that others around here do not seem to live up to. I am just glad that there will be no functionality lost.

If you find a really good installer, by all means, go with that. The most important part to any alarm/remote start IS the quality of the installation. Really good installers are hard to find.

I was putting an instrument light bulb in the dashboard of my Volvo that he did the RS install on and noticed all connections that I came across were shrink tubed and soldered from what I could discern from the shape of the shrunken wraps. The wiring was neatly retained and there were no excess bundles of wire zip tied under the dash. The shop also sells/installs upper tier car stereo so I assume there is some pride in workmanship. No crimp ons or scotch locks anywhere that I could see. Looked like a very clean install.

I would not go as far to say DEI is not Ron's favorite but i think he see's the flexability of the compustar stuff.

What i can do for you like i did ron was sell you what you need and sounds like he is a talented installer that can do the job.

Ask your installer if he is will to try installing the compustar stuff. I can loan you the programming tool like i did for ron.

That's a very good way of putting it. Everything DEI that I have installed for myself always worked great. The Avital alarm/RS systems I installed in my 04 Z71 and 08 4runner are still working good.

Although, I did have a rash of bad DEI stuff back in 2009-2010 that caused me a bunch of headaches when I was an installer at the time.

I certainly see the flexability with compustar. Not just how you can mix components but also all the programming options.
