A Question of Gear Ratio?

Howdy,

I have been putting some miles on my 2000 T4R the past week, some longer road trips. I noticed that while it has plenty of power for the most part it's a little slow getting there. I was able to pull some ~5-6% grades at 75+mph with room to spare but was getting over 3000 rpm there abouts. While pushing 85+ mph it just feels like it's working hard although never as much as 4000rpm and generally in the 3000's for even the most aggressive acceleration. None of this performance concerns me per se I just don't want to push it needlessly.

Previously I have a 2wd 4 popper Tacoma and it was obviously much zippier.

I imagine this is a function of gear ratio and tire (265's) size and no reflection on the actual performance of the T4R...right? Were there different gear ratio packages? If so how would I determine what's in mine?

it's a 4runner not a corvette lol that's how fast they go. 4000lb curb weight with a 187hp engine. You could always re-gear to 4.88's but why?

Hahaha! yea I know. I'm still getting used to it. As I said the Taco was plenty quick and I have been driving some American V8 4WD at school that while I don't trust their off-road longevity are hwy screamers.

I'm happy with my T4R as-is.

rear gearing will make the truck way feel way faster but I know it will hurt your fuel milage! If you have the money or time to do it your self it was one of my favorite mods but defiantly expensive! I did it because I have bigger tires but since yours are still stock it would be very interesting how it feels!
