A Silly Dilemma, to Trade or not to trade...

Threads like this is why I own more than 1 vehicle.

No way I would ditch my 4Runner, but I would consider buying something else sporty to bang gears in just to get it out of my system when needed.

That’s why I bought a ‘17 M3 back in January...instant regret upon getting it home and finding ~15k in unreported/hidden damage. Fortunately I got refunded. Haven’t ruled out a second car but like the idea of an all in one sort of thing. Drove a raptor as well, but waaaay too big.

My GTI is the perfect car to pair with a 4Runner. One is big and bulky and raised and tank-like. The other is small and fast and zippy and has 6 gears. I love them both and they compliment each other. I sadly lost my 4Runner to a flood and now only have the GTI. But they will be together again, soon.

Sorry to hear that you're going to drown your GTI soon....shouldn't you just get another 4runner?

To begin i love the 4Runner as this is my second one, and modding it while interacting on this forum has been a blast since i began playing with these in 2010. Life is taking me away from off road ventures, and i find myself wanting V8 power.

And here's where I risk losing all respect in this forum...i'm considering a '19 GJC SRT.... I know I know I know... but there's something to be said for enjoying the drive on the surface I'm predominantly on, and the ability to tow an additional 2200lbs more than the 4R speaks volumes.

The other option is to spend less overall and go the Supercharger route as well as overhauling the suspension, and probably upgrade the stereo components & add airbags. But do i really want to do that to a 4yr old vehicle with 80K miles on it? Especially since that doesn't affect towing ratings (there's a larger boat in my future).

The dealer I've been talking to has the exact model i want, has dropped about 4k off their price, and offered me 25K for mine with free delivery (they're three hours away).

Will happily entertain comments/concerns/browbeating from you all as far as options.

Agree with others - get what you want. That said, what are you wanting first - additional tow capacity in an SUV? If so, a Sequoia might fit for $20k less. If you want towing capacity and stoplight drag racing prowess, then Sequoia won't fit that, though it does have 'plenty' of power. As I've read here and elsewhere, you will be trading some measure of reliability. But no shade thrown here - by all means get what you want, and enjoy!

I’d say go for a land cruiser instead. It will be worth more and last way longer. I have an 08 srt8 challenger. It’s fun, I’ll never sell it, but I should never have bought it. I only have 60k miles and have blown 2 transmissions. Dodge is not reliable.

I know what you mean. Would love to keep my GTI if I could find a clean Gen4 4x4 with the V8 as a 2nd/weekend vehicle for a reasonable price. But I have come to learn that a clean carfax means absolutely nothing. Almost got stuck with a 2007 SR5 with the V8, clean carfax , no damage reported, 1 owner, etc When I showed up to buy it, a quick inspection revealed it had obviously been in a major front end accident, so I walked away from the deal, minus my deposit..... If a crash isn't reported to insurance or the dmv, it doesn't show up on carfax.

I don't drive enough miles to have 2 new vehicles, so I'll be trading.

Well, there's a reason forums like this exist, and its to keep me honest with myself haha. Decided to keep the 4R and finish the build after all. ICON stg 2, upgrading stereo components, finally getting a winch for the SSS bumper, and most importantly, its Magnuson time. First phase is the suspension and Supercharger, both are ordered. Will probably do the winch at the same time, just trying to settle on whether to get a zeon or a smittybuilt. Should be getting everything next week. Thanks for the inputs everyone, will post pics as things are completed. -Cheers

Yeah, I was just kiddin' around a bit. My wife has a GTI too, but I don't drive it. Too old, back issues, etc. Basically, jealous. Ha.

Much appreciated, i've had two cases of buyers remorse, one with the F150, and another with a 2017 M3 i bought back in January which turned out to have about $15K in unreported damage, fortunately the dealer took it back and fully refunded me. So the mileage + the fact that nothing compares to Toyota reliability is what has me on the fence still. Oh, and i don't wanna finance 48K.... hahaha.

Keep the 4RUNNER and get a low cost truck you can use to tow the new boat. For $9K-$12K you can buy a good reliable truck.

You could always look into a fullsize truck or something like the Tahoe RST with the 6.2L , could be more reliable than the JGC and be similarly fun. Nissan Armada is a great value and well made and tows 8500lbs and I thought it was pretty quick.

I traded my Armada for the 4Runner. Mine had the tow package w the proper gearing and was rated to 11K pounds. Fast also. I miss that vehicle but love that I can wheel my 4Runner. Hell, MPG wasn’t that much different either!
