A/T Temp Check Mode

Did a drain and fill on my tranny this afternoon. I referred to the write up on the Tacoma Forum for getting into temp check mode. Has anyone with a
4Runner does this and had a different experience with the check mode? After 4 shifts from N-D-N, The "A/T Temp" light comes on steady for me instead of blinking. I put it into P and it goes steady again right away, like it is ready to check. However, I don't think the fluid was 115 degrees because I went to pull the check plug and it was just warm and the engine was cool. I left the car running for 20 min and the A/T Temp light just stayed on. It never flashed indicating that it was too hot to check. Any thoughts?

Did the same for me when experimenting with the procedure.

When I did it for the drain and fill procedure, didn't take long for up to temp, warmer weather here, it did like it's stated in the Tacoma form.

Shut it down and let cool, and try it again.

Yup, your right. I let it cool for a few hours and tried it again. Only took a minute or two before it went solid on. So it takes a really long time for the fluid to cool down bellow checking temp and it stays within the temp check range for a long time as well(at least for me). I let the truck idle for at least 25 minutes before it started to blink.

I am going to do two more of these drain and fills within the next month, so good thing I know the process now....

Kool, glad it finally work for you to, had me worrying when I did it in test mode.

You really put that many miles on yours in that short of time to do 2 more times?

I used to pull heavy loads with and without my trailer, ( up to the 60k). Did my first D/F at 90k.
Came out red w/very slight brown tint. Just did this at 100k and was pretty much all red then.

I am at 86k and this is the first time I did it. I figured that since there is a lot more than 3+ quarts in the system, then it won't hurt to do it a couple times. The fluid that came out was pretty dark. I will see what it looks like again in a couple weeks of mixing with whatever was still in the system. I have another 6.5 quarts of new sitting around.
