A340 Auto shifter seems to stick.....?

Folks, i am re-installing the shifter and notice that the shifter likes to sometimes stick in P. Pushing on the detent on top doesn't quite disengage the lock.

If i push the white plunger connected to the shifter, which is then conneced to the wiring harness, all is well. I do not know what that plunger might do.

i cant imagine its normal for it not to disengage when depressed. But not always . ??

Again, never noticed any shifter issues before the engine blew. Any thoughts?

That's the brake interlock solenoid (shift lock solenoid). You should hear it click and release when you press and release the brakes while the key is in the ON position. It can also be bypassed by the shift lock solenoid bypass switch (accessible by popping off the little cover above the shifter).

Are all the harness components plugged back in? (this all happens under the dash)

I had a PO jam one of my with that solenoid. I had to replace the entire shift lock assembly to correct that sticking locked feature. As mine was jammed to
unlocked. No wonder he baked the transmission
