A340F Standalone Transmission Controller

How are you measuring TPS? My DBW pedal from the TDI has two potentiometers, one rising and the other falling. I just don't know the voltage output of these sensors. If the range is outside of acceptable for the SS, do you know of a universal TPS that would work? This might be a better question for the Latent, but I fig'd I'd check with you in the meantime.

Toyota ECU has a TPS input, a single wire. You probably have a TPS and pedal position sensor. (as does mine as part of the fly by wire)

I'd use the one gives voltage lower to high, I'd be surprised if it exceeds 12V(+/- usual vehicle "12V") (Check what its expected to be on the TDi) in which case you'll be fine.

What do you have your TC lockup set to? As in what minimum TPS? Also, are you allowing yours to lockup in 1st and 2nd?

It basically operates on throttle position vs vehicle speed, so splice it into the speed sensor on the output of the gearbox (Pre transfer box).

RPM is also there, but its only really used for a shift light and over rev protection.

It took me a while to get my shift points where I liked them, and I redid it when I re geared to 4.88s, but it's treated me well over 3+ years.

Attached is my last map.. this is for a truck running a VVTi 1UZ, 285/75/16 and 4.88s. I might tone down the kickdown kinks at about 20% throttle a bit in 3rd and 4th, but I've got used to it now. :D

For the record despite my work, my truck runs a factory A340F gearbox, the only mods are:
  • LS400 Bell housing
  • LS400 Torque Converter
  • Early (4 Speed) LS400 oil pump/input shaft
  • Early LS400 O/D unit (same ratios, just made fitting the oil pump/input shaft easier)
  • Overall line pressure adjusted to be higher (help with slippage and oil temps)
  • Shift Accumulators shimmed (help with slippage and oil temps)
So in terms of "SupraStick" the application is the same as a stock 4Runner.

I used the Pre transfer box speed sensor, so it still works when in low range.

Also, what do you think of these shift tables?

Here's some details to help make sense of the numbers:
  • Peak torque @ 2,200 RPM
  • Peak HP @ 3,700 RPM
  • Highest optimum shift point = 3,900 RPM
  • 4.3 Gears
  • 265/70/16 Tires
  • I don't want to give much throttle input below 1,600 RPM

I can't remember what TC settings I used, I'll confirm next time I plug a laptop into the truck.

Shift points look good at 100% throttle (on paper at least), that's the first point to get right, and work backwards.

Its a bit of trial and error, but I found putting it in a graph in excel definitely gave me a better starting point, as you get relational visual data that allows you to spot anything that looks way out.

Did you work out what you were doing with the line pressure solenoid? I still maintain that you *can* use then throttle controlled switching relay to control it, even though it is "On or Off" it's not ideal, but a lot of the supra lot just cable tie it to full pressure all the time, so this has got to be preferable to that!

If you wanted to be clever I'm sure you could create / buy a module that'll "fade in/ fade out" a relay switch on a duty cycle to make it less harsh, which is closer to the way the factory controls it.
