A340F Transmission Compatibility

Where are you seeing used for $1100? A junkyard tranny is around $200. Florida LKQ Pick and Pull has them listed for $145, with 30 day return.

A junkyard that already has one pulled with enough warranty to make sure it works fine shouldn't cost you more than $300

EBay and LKQ have nothing for a four-wheel-drive 01-02 4 runner less than a grand. If they do the mileage is too high to be considered. I’m looking around 100,000 or less.

I ran a 340h behind a 5vz using the 99 ecu on an unmodified 3rd gen engine harness. Swapped the speed sensor, solenoid harness, and park neutral switch from a 99 340f. Took me all of 30min to swap over. No codes. Shifted great. I even think I ran the 340f tc on the 340h.

Difference between a prior to 01 and after 01 is the kick down cable. To avoid that hurdle. just grab a 340f from a sequoia or tundra or grab a drill or plug. But if you want a straight direct bolt without having to touch a thing, then your only option is the 01-02.

That being said, I personally would not buy a used transmission that has been sitting in the junkyard for a while unless you have another DD. But I have heard of people who have and not had issues. But then there are the one who did have issues. I suggest looking into a reputable shop that rebuilds transmissions or spend the money for a reman.

I had mine rebuilt after I picked up my 99 when when the previous own had the strawberry milkshake. I have put over a 100k on it since and still shifts strong.

I agree with you on all points. I was originally looking for a low mileage swap. I’d be willing to do some work to make it work. I’ve had this truck since 2005 purchased it with 69,000 miles and now we sit at 418,000 miles. She and I get along great I like the new 4runners but $46,000 (for what I want) it just ain’t happening. I do not mind spending the money on a Toyota remanufacture. I do have a problem spending almost that much on a random transmission shop remanufacture. I have had bad experiences with Toyota transmissions rebuild my transmission shops (2006 double cab Tacoma on 37th). I have had no issues with Toyota manufactured transmissions (2005 Toyota 4runner). The torque converter is going out there’s no denying it. I will park the truck borrow another vehicle and save until I have the money.

I just got done putting a new engine in my 2000 limited federal. I had parted out a 2000 sr5 sport Cali. I noticed the connections are all the same however the pan, stick, and extension tube are 100% completely different bebetwwen the Cali and federal. Also the front drive shafts are different lengths between limited and sr5. I don’t think any of these thing matter to you but just be aware if you have Cali truck, then some other parts are different. If you dealer order for your vin it will be a non issue.

I'm pretty sure ALL 01-02 had the multi-mode transfer case, and there was no 4 cylinder options, so driveshaft should be the same across the trim levels if it's 4wd.

OK, yeah looking for under 100k mile will drive your price up a lot. I'm seeing a few on the online junkyard inventory sites for around $700 with around 140k miles. That searches all over the US, though, so you'll have to factor shipping costs in. If you were considering eBay, though, you may already have been.
